New Vera: Vera Edge

When I restored my Vera edge from my Vera lite back up, all of my non-zwave devices installed on the vera edge. So items like nest plug-in, harmony plugin, and so on. However I didn’t not get any z-wave light switches, locks, or sensors.

Did you create a Z-Wave backup before you created the Vera Backup ?

When you restored did you check the “Restore Z-Wave Network”

Yes and I just started over and did it all over again to make sure I didn’t miss anything. I first backed up my z-wave network, then backed up my Veralite. Then I logged into vera edge and loaded back, checking box restore z-wave network. Same results, no zwave devices but all plugins restored.

They must have changed the Format of the Z-Wave backup between UI5 and UI7 … So it can not be restored.
I was able to restore a UI5 backup into UI6 … but never tried on UI7 …

You may have to upgrade your Vera3 to UI7 … then do the backup (include a NEW Z-Wave backup made in UI7).
Than restore that into your Vera Edge. Expect problems … many people have had problem with the UI5 to UI7 upgrade on the same device.

There is a selection for backing up zwave network, although it is now only located in the zwave section of setting and no longer in the backup settings as well. And there is a restore zwave setting selection on the restore from back up so I would expect it is “intended” to work the way UI5 worked in the past.

I am already on UI7, so it is UI7 to UI7 from veralite to veraedge

I have a fair number of physical devices (30 or so) and some relatively complicated scenes and lua code, but considering the hassle people have reported with trying to upgrade and/or restore-backup (and some flakiness i’ve experienced with my veralite lately anyway), i’m seriously considering just re-building the entire network on the Vera Edge.

The wrinkle is that vera edge comes with a firmware version higher than is currently available to Vera 3 or veralite. Version 1.7.850.
I am not sure if this is a factor, trying to use a back up that was on firmware of a different version

Something I just did when I upgraded from UI5 to UI7 about a month ago. Not looking forward to that again with over 100 devices, and 3 door locks that are very finicky so they take many attempts to get them to configure correctly. Sucks…

Is anyone using Edge with Dimmers?

Curious as to what dimming increments you are getting (10% steps or less) ?

dimmer looks like goes from 1% to 100% in increments of 1

That’s an improvement from the 10% increment on VeraLite.

Thanks

went to turn up my heat on web page and had “NaN” in the text where temp setting should be, would not let me up the temp

than went to AutHomationHD and was able to work fine, once did that, the web gui control started working again, not sure what happened there

the heat was working on the current setting, just could not change it

2gig Z-Wave Programmable Thermostat (CT100)

will capture a screen shot if happens again so can open ticket with support

NaN is “Not a Number” from the javascript parseInt method. Likely there was no initial value and when it tried to increment or decrement it evaluated to NaN.

thanks, weird that AutHomationHD would work but not the web gui, maybe a refresh on browser would of fixed it too

AutHomationHD does .5 increaments, the web gui does .5 increments but only shows int value (does shows .5 value in web gui if done on AutHomationHD), but not if change made in web gui, hope that made sense

I am trying to

  1. Take my Vera3 to UI6 and factory defaults
  2. Use a recent UI5 backup to attempt a restoration
    3.Upgrade to UI7.
4, I’ll create a backup of the zwave network.
  3. Migrate new backup to the VeraEdge.

So far on step 2 and no z-wave light… as usual. Getting message “Luup engine is taking longer to reload. Try again.”

GRRRRRRRRR >:( >:( >:(

OMG never been so frustrated with this MCV stuff :frowning:

Yup - expect to suffer in ways never imagined (see my post just above this one).

Success! Nah just kidding…so when I restore my back up it does restore all devices, then a message appears saying…resetting zwave network, followed by “failed to save configuration” then just the zwave devices drop off leaving all my non-zwave plugin devices. What a pain in the ass, not to mention vera support has gone from a 48 hour turn around to a 2-3 week if ever response.

Funny how once UI7 rolled out response time went to a forever wait time?!? Hmmmm… Currently going back to UI5 on Vera3 and will restore a backup to get UI5 up again. Beyond mad that I bought VeraEdge and outside of starting completely over, I can’t use it.

WTF Vera?!? >:( >:( >:(

In all seriousness, blowing of steam here doesn’t make a difference, if everyone who is experiencing problems were to post to Vera’s FaceBook page, they’d change ASAP or face public ridicule for releasing a product that is so bug ridden.
