did you get any answers regarding using the dsc with vera?
did you get any answers regarding using the dsc with vera?
And the award for vague forum question of the year goes too…
Is there anything you would like answers too.
DSC and Vera integrate very well. For more information, please read:
This was very helpful. I’ve successfully gotten scenes to work in Vera using the DSC, so all is good. Thanks for all the help.
One more question though, what dividing line does everyone use between their Vera and Alarm system. What I mean by that is how does everyone decide which system to integrate sensors/switches/etc. to. Obviously security related things should be installed on the alarm side, while light switches/dimmers should be Vera side. But, what about Carbon Monoxide or smoke detectors? I need a Carbon Monoxide detector in the house, but don’t know if it should be integrated on DSC side or Vera side? Are wireless detectors pretty reliable? Thanks again

I would suggest that the monitoring devices that can be added to the security system would be the most reliable and dedicated audible alarm if this goes out side accept levels.
DSC Wireless devices are very reliable for the one I have had. I had one glass break sensor fail in over ten years of use. They are so reliable there have had very little changes over time!
Can Vera recognize a forced entry alarm from the DSC panel? I’m wanting to play with different scenes using a forced entry alarm as the trigger.

After days and days of reading and tons of research, I am soo glad this newbie found this thread!
I currently have the Vera 3, UI5, Multiple Insteon light switches, Kwikset Z-Wave Deadbolt and plan to add wireless Foscam cameras.
I never installed a home security system before so bare with me.
Here’s what my “wireless” build will look like. Let me know If I’m missing anything:
- DSC PC1864 (Alarm Unit)
- TR5164-433 (For Wireless Communication to peripherals)
- EVL-3 (For Vera Integration via Plug-In)
- PTK5507 (2 Touchscreen Panels, 1 upstairs/1dowstairs)
- WT4911R (Wireless Siren/Strobe)
- Various wireless window/door sensors I will determine later
I’ll have to figure out what power supply, wires, cables, etc…I will need to complete the install. I take it homesecuritystore.com could help me with this.
Now for my 2 questions:
- Can I use one of the PTK5507 to program the alarm?
- Can I run 2 PTK5507 Touchscreens - like one by the front door and one upstairs?
Thanks in advance!
I do not think the WT4911R will work with the TR5164-433
Thanks. I can always get a different model wireless siren.
I do not think the WT4911R will work with the TR5164-433
It might since the TR5164-433 makes other Alexor stuff like the wireless keypads compatible.

I spoke with the a rep at the homesecuritystore.com and the PTK5507 Touchscreen can program the system.

Thank you.
What’s this I hear about the DSC 1864 being harder to program than the DSC 1832? Shouldn’t they be the same just more zones?
I may only have 20-25 devices so the 64 may be overkill.
Its the same as far as I’m concerned. I’ve had both a 1616 and an 1864.
Online docs for TR5164 still state:
NOTE: Will not work with the WT4911 series of outdoor wireless sirens

Bummer. I kinda liked those strobelight sirens. So I take it there are no wireless sirens for the TR5164?
Now this leads me to another question… Which wireless motion sensor is compatible with the TR5164?
And since we are getting into motion sensors, what’s better, motion sensors for the DSC or for the Vera 3 via Z-Wave?
In theory, I could set up a bunch of Z-Wave motion sensors on Vera and have them set up to trigger events to DSC via Vera?
In general the DCS motion se?ors are much, much, better than any z-wave sensor.
Also it’s not possible for a Vera z-wave device to trigger your alarm system.
Your wire-less DCS motion sensors will have a delay, to minimize false triggers. This adds s noticeable delay if you want to use the motion sensors for automation in Vera. The wired DCS sensors do not have that delay and respond quickly for automation purposes, such as turning on lights.

Thanks. Then I will stick with DCS motion sensors for security and Z-Wave motion sensors on my Vera for Automation.
