What did you do with Vera today?
I bought a wireless oregon scientific weather station with 3 wireless temp/hygro sensors and it automatically added in to my vera without any problem.

So now I have my 3 own temp sensors instead of just relying on my neighbors (wich my rfxtrx433e found at the beginning)
OH - wow, that post jogged my memory and probably just solved a wireless interference issue I have at home. I have an Oregon Scientific receiver on my kitchen counter, and a remote temp sensor just outside. I also a Qmotion shade in my kitchen window. I have been having a lot of problems with the Qmotion shade not responding to open/close commands - not just via the Qconnect, but also the hand held remotes in close proximity. Yesterday I tracked down the Qmotion frequency on the FCC website since they do not list it in any of their documentation - 433.92 MHZ. I bet the Oregon Scientific is the interference - that is the exact same frequency.
I put a AEON module in the Range Hood in the kitchen to control the light.
This is now interfaced to the rest of my kitchen motion logic. Previously it would not be uncommon to find the Range light on in the morning.

I am still waiting on the Qubino with the dual relays and a temperature probe. Then I will automate the exhaust fan as well.
The fan would operate based on temperature.
Richard, I want to add control to my hood light as well. The issue I’m faced with is it is a dual setting light (off - low - high). Granted we only use the low setting as it is bright enough, I kind of want the ability to maintain both levels as well as switch functionality. Is your vent a 3-position switch as well? I have several of the Aeon modules so I’m familiar with them.

I have a 3 way switch also, but I only use one level as well … I am setup so that either direction will engage the Aeon module.
I have two speeds on the fan … but I also only use one level … when the Qubino comes out I will only use 1 fan level and 1 light level.

I had to tap into the neutral wire … but other than that I have not made any permanent mods … but I do not expect to leave my house anyway.

hmm… I never thought of just using both positions. Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll probably go that route.

How about knowing if the motor on your AC is actually running or condenser? Turns out my thermostat was reporting fine but the capacitors were shot and had to call the repairman. …
You just need power consumption. That’s how I know that the compressor on my dehumidifier is actually running. Any vera control of HVAC should include high and low temp warning (to be sure the system doesn’t run wild). That measure would also give an early indication of an AC compressor problem.

I had hoped that my basement humidity sensor would be a backup to my flood sensors. But I found when I had a leak that the humidity didn’t change enough to be useful as a warning device.
I used the door sensor to detect when I am home or away from home. hook up a magnetic keychain to my keys, and installed the sensor near my key holder…
when i hang the key, it untripped and turn on all lights if is evening, switch on my fan, roll up the blinds, and unarmed my security.
when i leave the house, it tripped and switch off all appliances, armed the security.
Wow, that’s a really good use for the sensor!

First karma point to you… that’s pretty cool. Take that sensor off the door–which will tell you only when the door opens, and not whether you’re coming or going–and do what you did, and for the same money you get something much more capable. Kudos.

kinda Hotel-style
but good idea indeed … wont work here since my wife always trow the keys on places i can’t find them

YEsterday I have changed my doorlock…before a YAle deadbolt touchscreen…

now is Schlage BE-469 Camelot Touchscreen deadbolt…

my impression is Yale is more fragile and slow to work, your open mechanism appears weak …
and the touchscreen of the mine after 6 months goes down and no more key appears to type the passwords…
I have to guess the position of the keys to put my password.

Schlage impressed me with your strong motor and your practical keyboard…

the inclusion was pretty fine in vera and put my passwords and all is ok now…

good product…I recommend…

Yup, the Schlage BE-469 is the best Z-wave lock under $200, IMO. Did extensive research before buying all of mine. Customer service is first rate if you ever have issues.

I recommend getting ahold of MATT at liquidation locks. He has a good deal on them.

Today with Vera I added a temperature sensor to my shower hot water feed pipe. This lets me know when (non-electric) shower is running, and Vera puts my extractor fan on before the room fills up with steam.

clever! great idea.

waited for the forum to be back online :stuck_out_tongue:

Atleast we didn’t have to wait as long as EDGE fix’s to be released.

Ouch, that’s going to leave a bruise

true … but my troll-score did take it’s toll … haha

My baby falls asleep to the sound of a hair dryer . . . so set one up on a hair dryer stand next to her crib and plugged it in to an Aeon switch. I then created a scene where it turns off automatically after 10 minutes and assigned that to my Minimote.

Now I can put baby down to bed, activate the hair dryer, and take the remote with me. When the hair dryer turns off - if I hear her still on the baby monitor, I activate it one more time (and that’s usually enough to get her to sleep . . . )

My wife loves it!!

I hope this is a joke.

I assume you mean, from the fire prevention perspective, that this may not be a good idea… but I further assume that bboucher has prepared this in a way such that there’s nothing around to catch fire. There are also hair dryers that can be set to cold, so there’s no heating element involved.

My wife is 3 months pregnant, and so I’m getting advice–welcome and otherwise–from all kinds of sources. “White noise to put the baby to sleep” is one I’ve heard a few times. I’ll be setting up something similar to try it out… maybe with an analog radio set to static on an appliance module.
