Yeah, I started a spreadsheet just like that in October and it just keeps growing. I haven’t reached Vodden level yet but I’ve blown your budget. You know it’s only a budget if you stick to it.[/quote]
LOL - I have the same issue. I also need 8 powered NEST smoke detectors…LOL $99 a piece. :). The wife is NOT impressed.
Yup I have 52 more switches in this house and if I do them all w/Cooper Dimmers like I plan to that is $4.8k and some change. Lalalalala (plugging ears) I don’t want to hear about smoke detectors, AV Equipment, or even coffee pots.

Awesome. ;D
I don’t like to think about what I’ve spent on switches over the past few years… especially since I’m anal about everything matching, and I stick to Leviton hardware. Yikes.
In the same camp–I had no idea I’d be spending anywhere near this amount! I made the mistake of adding everything up at the end of the year… About half way through the year I decided to bite the bullet and replace all our switches with lutron–talk about painful!
Q on the Nest smoke detectors–I looked at them, but decided against it because the CO detector meant they would need to be replaced pretty frequently (every few years). Is that not the case? I might be wiling to bite the bullet if they’ll last for a while, but $99 on a smoke detector that needed to be swapped out sounded nuts. Maybe you only need CO in a few locations?
A little reality to keep the train on the rails never hurt anyone…she’s been very understanding and appreciates all the new things that are constantly happening in our home.
I wanted to do more with my Vera today but as I search and search for sensors and new devices I’m coming up short. I changed my searches to look at zwave+ hoping there was more devices but there isn’t.
The newest I’ve seen which may not be new is a ceiling fan switch that ties into the electrical of the fan to control it that way. It seems the market is saturated with standard door switches, lights/bulbs, receptacles, and all the typical stuff.
How about a zwave pressure gauge? (I have a pool filter that has an analog gauge)
How about knowing if the motor on your AC is actually running or condenser? Turns out my thermostat was reporting fine but the capacitors were shot and had to call the repairman. Fortunately I have a home warranty.
I certainly didn’t come to bitch about anything but wondering if anyone has found new sensors beyond what we all have been using to get our set ups going.
Today I added a zwave switch to a set of my kitchen lights, and wrote PLEG logic to use my existing EnOcean occupancy sensor in my kitchen to decide when to turn it off and on. Previously that occupancy sensor was only used in PLEGs to trigger hot-water re-circulation and control the state of the nearby thermostat.
I know automating one light is pretty pedestrian, but this thread has kind of veered off-course, and wanted to try to get back to people listing their success and things that up the WAF.
I put a AEON module in the Range Hood in the kitchen to control the light.
This is now interfaced to the rest of my kitchen motion logic. Previously it would not be uncommon to find the Range light on in the morning.
I am still waiting on the Qubino with the dual relays and a temperature probe. Then I will automate the exhaust fan as well.
The fan would operate based on temperature.
