Vera Plus First results

Whilst waiting for my Vera Plus to arrive, I thought it would be good for those having received theirs to give their first impressions.

How easy to set up.
Did you transfer from one Vera to another or start fresh.
Advice

I’m also hoping to see some early results while waiting for mine to ship. Especially anyone who can test Zigbee devices. Not sure if I’m going to end up using them, but I still have some GE Link lights and Lutron Connected Bulb remotes I might want to integrate since they aren’t doing anything else right now. ;D

I bought GE Link bulbs too. Fingers crossed.

Got my VeraPlus today (in Europe). I am playing with it right now. First had to create a new user ID as I was still on UI5 till now.

Hope to find the CIFS codes soon as I need it for my setup. The CIFS codes for Vera EDGE in the forum are not working on VeraPlus. When CIFS works I can migrate my current setup.

During initial setup of the device and account it was unresponsive this made me worry. It appeared it was doing a firmware upgrade in background and needed some reboots. Firmware is now on version 1.7.1754. Initialy it was on version 1.7.1690.

I see no way to enable/disable Bluetooth or ZigBee. Both are enabled by default.

Got mine yesterday.

Im a beginner, first system ever, so I pre-ordered the VeraPlus and some Aeotec sensors (smartswitch 6 and multisensor 6-in-1).

Followed the steps on getvera.com → Support → Setup. Followed the steps and it directed me the whole way. For a beginner as myself it was very easy setup and it worked perfectly when I was done.

The sensors were already in the supported list so I just picked them from the list and got detailed instructions with drawings on how to connect them. So they were both connected on first try and works perfectly.

Have not got into the details yet, but setting up more users and making it accesible only through the server was also quite simple.

Very pleased so far.

my first Vera product.
I now have 3 GE link bulbs and a GE inwall dimmer working just fine.

Just got our Vera Plus today. Followed the instructions posted by Marc, for transferring over the existing network from our Vera Lite (UI7):

http://support.getvera.com/customer/en/portal/topics/754199-upgrading-to-a-new-controller/articles
http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,32031.735.html

Some of the steps worked well, but many others failed. Couldn’t watch the instructional videos (they were cut off the bottom of the screen), couldn’t update settings on the new Vera Plus (kept getting an error that we hadn’t chosen a country, but there just wasn’t any way to do that), and most importantly and frustratingly the process of creating then restoring a backup, both locally and via the network server failed again and again and again.

Then… we switched from using a Mac to a PC and everything worked! Would’ve been good to know; the instructions said we could use either type of computer!

One last issue: the final step recommended in the instructions - running a network heal. We once again followed the instructions but the option doesn't seem to exist anywhere, to manually launch it. Is that true? Many devices are recognized, but still not responding.

Anyway, now that it's semi-configured, we unplugged the Vera Lite and are looking forward to putting the Vera Plus through its paces. And seeing what other gizmos (WiFi, Bluetooth, etc...) we can add to our network! Will report back...

Reading this thread with interest as have just ordered the Vera Plus, my first HA controller. Was originally going to order Smart Things but changed my mind after completing my research. Will let you know how i get on when it arrives, have some nest protects and Hue Bulbs

You shouldn’t have issues with the nest protects (using the nest plugin), I have 7 of them on mine. I don’t have any hue bulbs though.

JDBHowz, I don’t think it was a MAC vs PC issue, most likely it had something to do with plugins or extensions installed in your browser. The controller itself generates the webpage.

The network heal function was removed by Sigma Designs who manufacturers the Z-Wave chip set sometime ago. The system now does it automatically each night and this has been working well.

Today being the official launch day there will be updates put out as well as an updated migration document for the VeraPlus. Issues that users may experience prior to the upgrade should be resolved once the update is installed.

Congradulations on being one of the first to get their VeraPlus! Have fun with it.

Just gotmine today in UK.
Still on Vera3 on UI5 with some luup scripts where there are some if,then type flows. Not yet migrated as I could not find any details if luup scripts are supported. Has anyone worked out, on how to easily transfer luup scripts from UI5 to UI7 if suported ?

Hi
I received me Vera plus today. I followed the instructions and had a couple of problems:
I have my Vera connected to a usb hub using a RFXCOM and connected to my powermax alarm.
Following the restore I had to manually change the serial port config which took a bit of trial and error but this is now working.

I have 2 remaining issues. 4 or 5 zwave devices are no longer connected. I guess I can try and reconnect them or wait for a network Heal overnight?

I also have an error message ,ZWAVE: FAILED TO OPEN IO PORT. Not sure why?

Any ideas?

andyzzz, I’d like to have the Customer Care Team take a look at this. Could you please email support@getvera.com the specifics of what is going on, enable remote access, include the code in the email and CC me, marc@getvera.com so I can flag the ticket so it gets looked at right away.

Gentleman, the update has been live. Your controller will automatically download and install the update when you provision it to your account. Go out there and have fun with your VeraPluses!

First time user to home automation.

Right out of the box, I followed the simple three steps,
Plug in the Ethernet
Plug in the power
Go to the website.

From there the steps were easy to understand.

I then connected my first device, a Schlage dead bolt. Vera referred me to the Schlage instructions, but the VeraPlus website also provided the correct step by step instruction for my deadbolt. EXCELLENT!

The device connected easily.

After that, it became a wee be more difficult because I am learning what makes up a scene.

Overall, it seems to be easy and so far, I give VeraPlus FIVE Stars!

After I learn all about what I can and cannot do, I will add more devices!

Take it slow if you are new like me!

I installed the GE CADDX plug in the first time into the usb port of Vera Plus , I was using this app successfully with Vera3 and UI5.

After downloading the app, i wend to test the arm/stay and at the first reaction I got from the system is that the alarm touch pads started to beep without being able to be stopped, the LCD displayed error communication with expander.

I was able to instead disarm from the app but not the normal lcd touch pads. if then went to arm via the touch pads the same issue would start and then not be able to turn of the constant beeping.

I had to disconnect power to the system , went back a few hours later and reconnected , the constant beeping was able to turn off via LCD and now working properly.

I did discover this issue again if I deleted and installed the app and went through the same power disconnect to and reconnect to stabilize back to functioning.

Once this was resolved was able to get it working as before same as Vera3 UI5. One thing i noticed is that the security log report from the plugin, normally shows date and time and log entry, but where it had failed the date did not match the normal day/month format.

For now it is ok but an interesting situation when setting up from scratch into the vera plus and UI7. I am not sure if same issue would have happened on the Vera Edge, but it sounds like a USB connection software issue on Vera Plus or the app is operating differently in Vera Plus /UI7 vs the Vera Edge UI7 ( don’t know) and certainly unlike Vera3 UI5 which works perfectly. Could also be the app itself not handshaking correctly to the GE alarm panel via USB/RS232 initially.

Hi Folks,

I was following the guide to transfer my VeraEdge to VeraPlus. Got to the restoring backup part, and keep getting an error when trying to restore.

Restoring backup:: ha-gateway-backup_45004947_1.7.1707_2016-02-18.tar

Start unpacking backup files… ERROR: Failed to unpack the backup

I’m on a Mac, and tried both safari and Chrome as browsers.

So for the moment, I’m stuck with my VeraEdge as a slave, and VeraPlus as a Master, but cannot restore my backup.

Any ideas?
