Is there a good smoke detector for Vera?
I’ve seen the Everspring, but it looks like they are just for Euorpe.

I would highly suggest that you use alarm panel integration for this.
Good suggestion. I agree.
I’ve got a separate ADT alarm with 2 smoke detectors hard wired.
I was thinking about replacing a few of the stand alone detectors in the bed rooms with something connected to Vera.
Does anyone know where I can purchase a Z-wave smoke detector for the US?
The only ones I can find are the European spec Everspring Detector-SF812 ones.
I do not think there are any z-wave smoke detectors for the US market. I could be wrong, but I have not seen any.
There are none that work on US frequencies… Believe me, I’ve looked all over because I want some very badly. I’m really surprised at the slow pace new z-wave products have been coming out here in the US. The technology has been available for quite a few years already but you wouldn’t be able to tell that from the product list. Some z-wave products I really would’ve thought would be out by now (and that I’d really like the opportunity to purchase) are smoke/fire/CO detectors, glass break sensor, door bell, flood light and a 20amp outlet to run in wall ACs. Are there any rumors of any upcoming US z-wave products? I read the trade show news but it always looks like a lot of the same old.
I’m surprised Everspring hasn’t entered the US market yet (it’s a Korean outfit as far as I can tell).
Are the Fibaro sensor modules available for US frequencies yet? If so, you could get a regular smoke detector that has some form of alarm output (either a voltage or a opening/closing relay), and add the Fibaro sensor. I did the same to “Z-wavify” a regular gas detector.
Some of the Everspring items are available in the U.S.
Regarding smoke detectors, it may be an approval issue / requirement issue. States have their own requirements as to whether the detector must be hardwired, have battery backup, be interconnected, the type of sensor used, etc.
I just found this webpage:
http://www.whwharton.cn/productlist.html
NWD Z-wave products from China, they look like Everspring products to me,
They have an EU and US Smoke alarm listed.
That z-wave smoke detector listed there looks exactly like the Everspring Z-Wave smoke detector (under a different company name) that reportedly does NOT work on the US frequency. There are several other threads on this board about people that purchased the ever spring detector hoping it would work in the US but unfortunately they’ve all reported it does not.
As far as I know there are currently no z-wave smoke/co/fire detectors. One theory is that no US manufacturer wants to accept liability for some sort of communication mishap where the detector would not accurately transmit an alert in an emergency situation. I don’t know why the European standards are so different because apparently Everspring has no problem producing them for Europe and users have reported the alarms definitely works on the EU frequency.
Yeah, the ‘my house burned and your alarm did not zwave email me so I will sue you for millions’ scenario.
I have multiple smoke alarms and CO alarms around the house but would love to have 1 or 2 z-wave compatible units so in case of trouble I get an email. I can then use my cams to check the house and in case of trouble cal 911 and haul arse home to try and save my dogs…
Found this for the KIDDE smoke detectors SM120X. You could possibly use it with a Zwave Door/Window Sensor.
What about this Z-wave smoke detector ?
I’ve not heard of this company before “Vision” and this is the first time I have seen this particular smoke detector.
User Manual here - Shows US frequency available.
cw-kid: I’ve never seen Vision’s brand either as you’ve noted, and it is remarkably different than Evolve’s EU z-wave smoke detector. The manual does indeed show one of the three z-wave frequency’s they manufacture is a US version.
Only issue is where can one of these be purchased? It looks like they manufacture these but don’t actually sell them. I’m going to send them an email to confirm if one of these US frequency z-wave smoke detectors should work on a US-based z-wave network and if so, what the price is and where they can be purchased. It’d be nice to finally see a stand-alone US z-wave smoke detector rather than one that has to be rigged up from a standard detector with a contactor wired up to some other z-wave sensor.
One of their offices is in Thailand. I use to live there and my wife is Thai, if you get no response I’ll ask her to contact them see what they say?
I saw an EU version of that Vision Smoke Detector for sale on a UK website for 60 GBP.
Another route to consider, is to connect your existing detectors with your alarm panel (or use detectors supported by your panel); if you have an alarm panel, and one that is supported by Vera. As also previously hinted at by @garrettwp. (Topics now merged.)
Stand alone Z wave smoke sensor, I was able to find a source, that will make an alarm in the 908.4 MHze frequency in China, there is a min order of 100 pieces at 40.20 USD per unit. If someone wants to run with this I can forward the details
Can you not ask them for a few samples first ? That’s the way it normally works.
if the samples are sent out and work. then i would be up for an order of 7.
