I’m consistently getting a “Failed: Purgin Associations” issue trying to add a Yale Lock. Vera is right next to the lock, I’ve tried adding it, removing it, but it seems to spend a a lot of time purging associations, only to fail.
Looking through my logs, I see the following entry for this device:
Okay, after deleting the lock via the dongle, I’ve progressed somewhat further.
Now I am getting the “Failed at: Setting Special Association” error instead.
Reading through the Wiki talks about sleeping devices, and I’m pretty sure the lock isn’t going to sleep, since I can manually lock/unlock the lock and I notice Z-Wave activity each time. This is even during the association setting phase.
Locks have always been flaky when configuring them. Try and have your vera unit next to the lock and let it sit over night. Most of the time, the lock will get configured. It just takes a little time. I have read in the past that the yale locks are troublesome.
Just to add, the Yale lock I am currently testing has been among the easiest and most reliable z-wave device I’ve tried, so far. Configured straight away, no problems changing codes or config settings, always sends updates about its status etc etc.
I read about the battery issue. I chose the non-touchpad model on the basis the batteries might last longer if it didn’t have to light up like a Christmas tree (also because buttons are easier to find without looking), but this one lights up like a, well, beacon, shall we say. It’s running on my bench for now, and I can report on how I find the battery life going in a couple of weeks.
I have done everything suggested a few times. I am still gunning the 1.1.1245 firmware and I have not had any problems. Now I have one.
I am still stuck at “device failed to configure”, and it is red. At this point I can still push the lock and unlock buttons and see the lock respond. I cannot add code, I can not see the battery level, and etc.
I saw it once but it fail to configure so I reset the device dropped the zwave connection and tried to read the device.
The device has had the Vera device sitting 12" away from it night and day for the last 36hours.
It’s is almost as if the lock is not listening for config commands from Vera At a certain point. Is there a way to make the lock stay on longer for the sync.
I have also pressed configure this node now button a few times

Does any one have any thoughts.[/quote]
After you press configure this node now button, try opening and closing the door several times, hopefully, this wakes the door comms to enable it to be configured. You may also try repair your ZWave network before doing the above.
I am facing a similar problem adding a Yale Real Living Deadbolt. Vera finds the lock, adds it with a red light, and says “Z-Wave device XX failed to setup security. Exclude and include”. Excluding and including don’t help. Tried using full power include. When clicking “Configuring node now” it fails. Tried leaving it overnight, nothing changed. Any leads?
Thanks Garrett! It works now. I thought I don’t need to bring it near the lock when doing full power inclusion. Doing an exclusion, then full inclusion near the lock did the trick. Works fine now!
When it comes to locks and inclusion, you need to have the lock and vera next to each other. If you get communication issues with the lock and the lock is not near vera and there are no other devices near the lock that support beaming, you will need to either have vera close by or a device or two near the lock that supports beaming.
My issue finally resolved itself after upgrading the firmware to 1.5.346. I had to exclude and include one additional time and I have not had a problem since. I had my Vera2 sitting 8 inches away from the lock for 3+ days with the no resolution. I was so frustrated I tried the firmware.
I just got a lock from Yale for a review unit and have the latest vera beta firmware (346) on my Vera3. I have 2 kwikset and 2 schlage locks already in there and have tried both a full power and low power, near vera and away from Vera and tried resetting the lock and excluding it every time and it’s failing to exchange the security keys. Not sure what else is the problem, and I even tried rebooting Vera3 and starting from scratch again. No go. I submitted a ticket with Verbose logging on and see what MCV can tell me.
EDIT: MCV fixed the issue, not sure what it was but they had to do something in my vera3 remotely. I asked for details so I can fix myself if it happens again
I received 2 Real Living Deadlocks today. Installed the first one, took my Vera, did the exclusion, then the inclusion and I could configure the lock with the GUI. Everything works beautifully.
Then I installed the second lock, did the exclusion, then the inclusion and I receive a RED light with the error message “Unable to get any information on the node”.
I tried:
configure now
exclusion and inclusion again
pulling the batteries of the first Yale lock in case it interferes with the second lock and tried the exclusion and inclusion again
I copied the configuration of the first lock manually to the second lock
Interesting facts:
A) after any exclusion and inclusion Vera detects a lock and actually names it “Yale_Door_lock” but when I click on it, it says “Device is not configured”
B) Under settings it lists all the data of polling time, vendor, version, etc
C) As soon as I click anything like lock or unlock it says “Device is not configured” and when I click on settings then all the data like time, vendor, version, etc which was there before is simply gone. It is all empty.
D) When I refresh the GUI with “Reload” it starts polling the devices and it gets stuck at “Getting name” and after some time it says “Unable to get any information from node”
E) The only I haven’t tried yet is to exclude lock 1 and exclude lock 2 and then try to just include lock 1. I have a suspicion that I can only configure one Yale Look into Vera but that’s a guess at the moment.
The distance from my Vera to the Kitchen Door lock is twice as far as the distance to the front door lock. So Vera should have no issue connecting to the Front Door lock.
I am lost at this point and I would appreciate any help you guys can provide.
When you included them again you need to do a full power the Vera needs to be right next to the lock for the complete the enrolling and configuring.
You should see comment “Doing an exclusion, then full inclusion near the lock did the trick” peppered throughout the forum for the same reason as you have encountered… Once there are register the configuration is the final step… Do one lock let it fully enroll and configure. This can take a while 5-10-20 minutes. Then repeat for the second lock. It will fix up routing during the next heal.
These flags are determined by the bit patterns found in the two bytes: Capability and Security:
L : Listens
R : Routes
B : Beams
RS : Routing Slave
W1 : Requires beaming
in addition to what @Brientim said, please note that sometimes distance is not the only factor in Z-Wave reachability, maybe something is blocking or weakening the signals (door? wall? fridge?); so if it continues to give problems, I suggest moving Vera near the lock, doing a full include there, and giving it time to configure (locks take more time to configure, etc.) before moving Vera back to its place.
Your suspicion in point (E) above is incorrect, I have 2 Yale locks added to Vera and both work well.
Thanks guys. I did all this. My eexclusion and inclusion was done with Vera next to the locks. The door locks even tell you when pairing is complete. The second lock is the issue not working after pairing.
