I’m on my third dongle and still have a freezing problem. My first was replaced with the recall last October, that died in January and MCV replaced it in March. It worked great for about a month, then “no-zwave”. I sent a ticket to support with all my logs, and after a few exchanges they responded with:
We identified the problem. Is the same firmware problem of the dongle from Aeon-Labs. We hope to come up with a solution ASAP as we already shipped broken dongles together with those Vera were they were installed to Aeon-Labs so they can debug and fix this once and for all. Until then, please try to reset again the dongle using the small pin hole button on the back (hold it pressed for 5 sec).
It’s been almost two months with no resolution.
Is any one else having similar issues or am I the only person whose system fails on a daily basis with “no-zwave” caused by a defective dongle?
Anyone using a dongle other than the one suppled by Aeon Labs?
It was suggested that if I buy the new VERA2 it won’t have the problem since there is no dongle (MCV offered me a discount), but I’m reluctant to spend more money on a defective product. Anyone else made the switch to get around dongle issues?
I have not had any issue with the Aeon dongle that came with my vera.
Vera2 solved all of my freezing dongle issues I had with Vera1
My dongle was defective and replaced this past January. So far I haven’t encountered any problems. I’m still using 979 firmware.
I just got a not from MCV support saying that UI4 should be out soon and all known bugs were fixed including my dongle issue, so I guess I’ll wait and see…
After over a year of perfect reliability, my dongle appears to have frozen for the first time this past week. I have ordered a replacement dongle from MCV so that when I get to my vacation home this weekend, I can swap it out. I am concerned, based upon this thread, that I just spent $65 and may still have the problem and, like tlueker, I’m reluctant to drop another $299 on Vera2 just to solve this problem. I’m still on UI2, firmware .994. But as I mentioned above, I’ve had Vera for over a year, and this is my original dongle, and I never had problems before. Maybe I was just lucky? Or maybe these stupid dongles have a short shelf-life?
I will also be installing an electronic timer to power-cycle my Vera twice/week. I can’t have remote access to Vera interrupted again - I’ve become too reliant on it to manage my weekend home.
slackner, I’m pretty sure that it’s the dongle. I have Vera for about 11 months now and my original dongle gave up after 5 months. The new one they sent me is working just fine.
I just received my replacement dongle from MCV.
Can I assume that because I purchased it directly from MCV that it already has the latest dongle firmware on it, and it should be ready to go?
Yes it has the latest firmware. Too bad you had to purchase it, I got mine when they had the dongle recall program but I had to fight them tooth and nail in order for them to send me one.
