openLuup: Turn-key Images & Linux (Aptitude) Guide
openLuup/Oracle Virtualbox image is complete, I just need to test portability and I’ll release it shortly if all looks good. No instructions needed for this one, simply load the clone.

[1] 8GB disk, 1GB memory and 1 processor.
[2] Hostname = openLuup
[3] user = test, password = openluup
[4] root = openluup
[5] Weaved is installed but must be initiated from the CLI. Specifically /home/test/weaved/weaved_software
[6] Execute weaved installation from the above directory ./installer.sh
[7] Answer no to ‘ia32-libs’ (it wants to install this). I’ve already loaded other libraries which contain this…
[8] Archive file is 623MB, not too bad…

Edit: Had to modify the shell script as it wants to call sudo all over the place. This causes issues so I’ve updated the instructions above for Weaved installation.
Thanks for posting the VirtualBox clone! But where do i start with the guide? I have been able to get the server installed and running but where is the start point for getting OpenLuup and AltUI working?

thanks!

It’s a complete image… With nothing to do on your part… Just load it and go to the vbox ipaddress:3480

I can confirm it works perfectly

Looking at the same Ubuntu image, here is my directory structure.

drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Apr 27 12:55 if-down.d
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Apr 27 12:54 if-post-down.d
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Apr 27 12:54 if-pre-up.d
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Apr 27 12:55 if-up.d
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 142 Jun 4 2014 interfaces
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Jun 5 2014 interfaces.d
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 Jun 4 2014 run -> /run/network
root@odroid-openluup:/etc/network#

Andy my eth0 file

root@odroid-openluup:/etc/network/interfaces.d# cat eth0
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

root@odroid-openluup:/etc/network/interfaces.d#
@CudaNet

I ran the command and eth0 does not show up. Same readout as I sent to you before, only loopback and inet6.

So I used vi and edited the hostname back to ubuntu-server. When I open interfaces in vi I see 1 line…"source-directory /etc/network/interfaces.d
Now I go to this dir where the only file there is “eth0”.
This may be where my problem lies. Shouldn’t the eth0 file be in the network/interfaces dir AND the interfaces.d dir deleted? Why do I have another directory called interfaces.d? Does this look right to you?

The eth0 file is correct looking at it in vi.
Many thanks @konradwalsh

That’s Great. You were right - i was able to get it up and running and able to log in from a web browser. I am thinking for now I will just run everything off this virtual box as it seems like like a good starting point for now.

The next thing I did was follow step 31 of CudaNet’s Linux_Aptitude guide to connect to my Vera. That’s done. But if I understand it correctly, all I am doing is controlling my own Vera box from AltUI, no?

How do move scenes, etc, from my Vera box into OpenLuup?

many thanks!

Hello,
I’ve tried to download an image for the raspberry from the first post but one drive didn’t gave me the link or told me than the file doesn’t exist anymore.
Is there another way to get the image?

Thanks!

Root cause was Bitly for whatever reason. I’ve now removed Bitly and the updated the links and this should correct everything. If it doesn’t, send me a PM with the exact distro you’re trying to download.

Perfect I’ve got a Pi2,downloaded and installed fine, damn that’s fast!

Thanks!

I’m running the Debian server version and am having issues running the ./openLuup_reload command.
Here is what i get:

test@openluup:~/vera/cmh-ludl$ ./openLuup_reload lua5.1: openLuup/init.lua:227: openLuup - is another copy already running? Unable to start port 3480 server stack traceback: [C]: in function 'error' openLuup/init.lua:227: in main chunk [C]: ? test@openluup:~/vera/cmh-ludl$

I’m posting here as it might be something with the server permissions?

No, it’s not that. Somehow, you already have another copy of openLuup running. If you look at your processes, and kill the openLuup job, then you should be able to start over. Alternatively, and perhaps more easily, just issue the HTTP request:

http://VeraIP:3480/data_request=exit

You should get a message acknowledging the exit, and then you can start a new openLuup_reload image.

@CudaNet

I’ve been gone the past few weeks and now I’m back to try to sort out my eth0 issues with my XU.

Once my XU boots (still no net connection as before) I logged into root. At the root curser I am at the prompt,root@odroid-openluup:/home/ubuntu#

Does this look right to you? Shouldn’t I be at … root@odroid-openluup: ?

Maybe my problem is my XU is start up booting into the wrong directory so it cannot configure eth0.

What do you think?

@CudaNet

Another thing seems strange:

At root (root@odroid-openluup:/# I type command " /etc/network/interfaces.d# cat eth0" and it returns “No such file or directory”

HOWEVER, if I cd to directory onterfaces.d and do a list, it shows the eth0 file there!

What is going on here?

Hi all, I’ve been away for a couple of weeks taking some much needed R&R. In the next week or so I’ll begin updating all the turn-key images to AK’s latest which will then allow you to upgrade on your own moving forward. I have a lot to catch up on so please be patient with me…

@Bucko,
I find it very strange that you are within a /home/ubuntu directory… How’d that happen ? I think your Odroid needs an Exorcisim !!! How totally strange !
Is there an app for that ? :slight_smile: Perhaps AK can add an Exorcism option… OK, just kidding… I know this has been a tremendous frustration… I’d really be interested if you could somehow get your hands on an SD card and load the Odroid image to that (removing the other storage device of course prior to boot).

CudaNet,

So you are saying I should remove my emmc modual and instead use only an SD card to image to? I will have to get one. How big?

Thanks Jack

Cudanet… correct me here if needed

No… I think he forgot you are using emmc…
I think what he is saying is to start over…
Wipe it clean and then reinstall everything.
But make sure you save your config files - user_data.json

I have wiped and re imaged my emmc 4 or 5 times now with Cudanet’s image and keep getting the same results. I never got far enough along to ever create a user data.json. Fresh image and I have no eth0 out of the gate!

I think it might be worth a try, especially if you can borrow one. An 8GB should be fine… I’d even be willing to mail you one pre-loaded with the image - that is assuming you’re in the states. Just shoot me a mailing address via PM if you’d like me to send you one.

Odrobian Vanilla (Debian 8; 5422) for the Odroid XU4.

459MB download (requires minimum of 4GB to store image).

It’s all good, I didn’t forget. It’s the EMMC I’d like to eliminate first and then… Well, sigh … Who knows…
It’s been an uphill battle, I even ordered my own emmc (a long while ago) to test and everything worked perfect - both the MicroSD and EMMC… So odd…
