No connection over findvera

Hi,

still new to vera and a little bit struggling at the beginning…

When I try to login via findvera.com over the internet I get the following errors (and YES, I enabled remote access). When I try to connect from home over findvera (with account/pwd) everything works…

Anybody any ideas?

hecking internet connection …

no Clue.
please post if you figured it out.

Hi,

after updating to 591 remote access works! The only minor problem is that newly log pages are blank (you see only the word ‘Date’)

ERROR loading local data: remote access service is not active.

Sysinfo loaded[/quote]

The above error line means that you didn’t activated the findvera.com service from your Vera web ui ( from Dashboard go to Setup and then to FindVera.Com).

As I wrote before after updating it worked, and yes, findvera was enabled from the web ui…

The only thing that doesn’t still really work is notification: SMS doesn’t work at all, email did work only one time from aprox. 20. Could it be a problem that I’m located outside the US (Germany)?

I keep on getting the same message Im in USA I can’t get on dashboard all I want to do is load this damn schlage lock I just got Vera today and I want to pull my fuking hair out.

The dashboard can’t load because our server needs to reach your Vera, as it tells you in the error message it is possible that you haven’t enabled Findvera.com service.

So try to do this steps:

  • connect directly to your box: connect your pc on the same lan as vera and access it as described in the User Manual : http://wiki.micasaverde.com/index.php/Networking_Setup
  • be sure that Vera has internet access: You can see the youtube videos and the Network Troubleshoot from Advanced->Net&Wi-fi pass ok all the tests
  • be sure that the findvera.com service it’s enabled: GO TO FindVera.Com tab an you should see this message: " V Remote access is enabled"

If your Vera has internet access and the findvera.com service it’s enable then check your firewall. Be sure that connections from Vera to our servers are allowed. Some firewall have restrictive rules that drop connections on ports higher that 1024 or at all. Try to put Vera in the DMZ ( it will expose all the Vera ports, you’ll have to set it manually in gateway mode, activate the firewall and disable dhcp on lan if you intend to leave it this way) or as your main router.

Then if you still encounter that error message contact us by enabling Tech Support RA and send us a Trouble Report (Advanced → Tech Support)!

Is anyone else having trouble again today successfully logging in at FindVera.com?

The site’s running and requests my login credentials, but displays “Problem loading page” in Firefox 3.2.5 and Internet Explorer 7.x about 30 seconds after I click “Login”.

I know others shared this problem with me yesterday evening, and perhaps most of us were/are running firmware .899 (in which FindVera has worked fine before). Local Vera access, for me, works fine throughout.

Yeah, me too. I’ve been catching up with all the weekend’s posts and hadn’t tried to log in to vera. No can do. Ugh.

Me too, cannot log into Vera remotely now. request times out for me.

Looks like a server problem. Me, I can login but it’s extremely slow.

Seems back up and working now.

Confirmed. Back up and running through FindVera.com. Thanks for the note, C.

Down for me - cannot login. I get the Findvera.com login page, but after churning for about 30 seconds, I get a site not found error. Sounds like MCV might be having some server issues? ???

You are correct sir, down again.

Ditto at 3:28 EDT on 9/8: “The server at ra1.findvera.com is taking too long to respond.”

Yes, we had some major hardware failure today. It should be back up. We also upgraded the hardware so it shouldn’t slow down when the usage gets heavy like it did before.

Thanks, micasaverde, for the update. A suggestion for the future - post all outages and other operational issues here immediately. We all know about hardware and network issues and can be quite forgiving. BUT, on the other hand, we’re all working out many reliability issues of our own, and when we’re troubleshooting we need all the information we can get. When we find ourselves chasing our tails needlessly, we–no, strike that–I will tend to lose patience with Vera and MiCasaVerde and will become less of an advocate/evangelist.

I’m asking you to spend time posting when all you really want to think about is how to fix that hardware failure. It also means being “pants down” in public, but we’re all friends here, so don’t be embarrassed.

You’re right. Sorry.

I suggested this to one of the MCV tech supports and he acted like I was out of my mind. Nevertheless, they had a server down and that’s why a bunch of us were getting the “Communications Error” message. Anyhow, what I had suggested was MCV should post these events on this board when it happens so that we don’t all panic and start messing around with our Vera, unaware of the fact that the problem is at their server’s. They should add some sort of widget on the Forum and the Wiki page with the current status of their servers. It’ll save them hundreds if not thousands of calls and us some measure on sanity. Just an idea!
