New Vera: Vera Edge

Good Luck with the Fibaro home center 2 but, is it really fair to compare a 150.00 item to a 750.00 item?

I don’t have any complicated setup but so far the VeraEdge isn’t that bad but I haven’t had it running very long so that could change.
just finished talking and have John of MCV get into my computer through *edited; he did all stuff with my vera2 transfer all devices and scenes to EDGE, disconnected vera2 permanently. John did all these for about 2 hours. now my Vera Edge is working nice; devices, scenes and everything.

hello team…new to The forum… but I am seeking some assistance…
has anyone successfully convert from VeraLite to The new Vera Edge?
I just purchase the new Edge, and I backup my Vera Lite and then restored the backup to the Edge.
the only device that shows up is my two Nest devices… what am I doing wrong?

is there any sort of manual/direction from Vera on the correct method to perform this upgrade?
I emailed Vera support two days ago without any response, I am giving them until the weekend if I cannot this this to work
sending the devices back. any assistance/guidance the team here has, i will be so grateful…
There is no real upgrade over the 3 at this time. I would have stayed at the 3 to begin with.

There are several bugs that are annoying like the USB and saving static IP address but all in all I am happy. This is mostly due to having a unit that is not sucking wind and restating all the time due to low memory. I agree that vera is not for those that want an out of the box solution polished like apple products. I think part of the fun of vera is being able to work through customization issues, but you need to enjoy that kind of stuff. That being said the amount of issues with UI7 is not making it fun but a pain in the ass. I am holding out hope they can get their act together.

I am in the same situation. Have Vera Light which is chocking on all the devices I am adding so today my new Vera Edge arrived. I am curious how you migrate your devices? I am fine to re-add them and recreate my scenes (I like this stuff) but I am not sure if I need to de-register all of them from Vera Light or not. Could you let me know how you migrate your devices and scenes please? I would like to go from Vera Light UI5 to Vera Edge UI7 if possible without upgrading my Vera Light to UI7. Thanks.

I don’t think there is a good way to do it. You can always downgrade your veralite after. Also when I called VERA they were willing to do it for me while I was on the phone. I think the easy way would be to call them with both Veras plugged in next to each other and let them take over.

Thanks. They are closed now, will have to wait till Monday I guess. I was hoping to start setting it up now since I have a weekend to fix things. Let’s say I want to start from scratch and don’t mind adding all devices back, what is the best way to unassociate all of them from the existing vera?

Put batteries in your LITE and walk around to each device.

Well, I did re-setup all devices today and recreated my scenes. Wasn’t too bad really to exclude everything and re-include them to Edge. Everything is working great except the Honeywell/Ademco/Vista Alarm Panels Plugin via AD2USB because of the USB bug. Hopefully it will be fixed soon since I need to integrate my alarm system again. So far I like the new UI and no issues yet.

Yup I’m not using my edge yet due to alarm panel. That would kill just about all my automation due to no motion, or door sensors.

Maybe I spoke too soon. Everything looked and worked well last night. I know my scenes were executing fine too all day. Just now logged into Vera Edge interface and saw 7 phantom “_Motion Sensors”, 1 phantom “_Smoke Alarm”, and 1 phantom “_Windows and Doors Sensor” appeared from nowhere and all were set to be controlled by my Home Energy Monitor… WTF?? Just deleted them all and I hope they do not reappear. I mean I would love to have some extra sensors for free… but not the fake ones. Really puzzled how that could happen though and why they were all set to be controlled by my HEM.

I had the same thing happen to me - about 6 phantom motion sensors. I deleted one and all of the rest disappeared.I have not had them show back up since.

Mine have not come back either yet, been a few days now. Although I had to delete each one of them separately. Other than that, it’s been rock solid. Just waiting for the Ademco/Vista alarm to start working again once the USB driver issue is resolved… according to support at the end of this month.

Mid last month I heard 1st or 2nd week this month. So should be ready by 2016

@integlikewhoa -

I know this may fan some flames, but I do want to ask…

I have a honeywell based alarm system, but it isn’t one that can be integrated with Vera today. So now I am considering going down the path of the Vista 21P with an EVL3 board.

Based on what was announced from GetVera @ CES this year, should I consider waiting for the security based system that is coming out from them? I know they miss their dates on releases and everything like that, but I am more wondering if native vs. a plugin would be better. I have a massive amount of zwave throughout the house and would really only need to invest in zwave window and door sensors, along with a flood and smoke detector. Probably would come out to to be about as much as purchasing the Vista 21P, EVL3 board, and a panel.

What are your thoughts on this?

I don’t trust VERA as my alarm and never recommend it as one.

I don’t have my system monitored (monthly fee) which is really one of the only changes they are making.

If I did want to monitor it I could get a 5.00-10.00 a month online monitoring service to do my current alarm panel where Vera wants to charge more.

They announced this idea over a year ago and it never happened. So will it be out anytime soon?

Actual Alarm panels have better sensors (range, battery life, pricing, availability, size) then what vera will do by adding a z-wave motion (which don’t work well on batteries) to their VERA.

VERA has a purpose and can be easily overloaded (hardware issues) It’s nice to have vera interact with the alarm, but for the alarm system to have to relay on Vera to do it’s job. My 130.00 Vera takes a crap tomorrow, has random reboots or any of the other common issues I’m only down one system not completely down without an alarm.

So It’s not for me! And One reason I’m here is to not pay a monthly fee. It might be the solution for others tho.

Forgot to touch on your alarm. I obliviously don’t know which exact alarm you have or keypads, but some of the reason people don’t want a real alarm is due to some of the install.

I ran all my sensors with wire. I have a single story house, I’m able to freely climb in the attic and was able to drill in the top of each door to put a very small sensor into the top’ of the doors that can’t be seen with the door opened or closed. I have no batteries and each door sensor cost me 1.25 a 500ft roll of wire was 35.00. Motions cost me 10.00 each and have no sleep time or batteries to replace.

You already have some or all your sensors installed and a newer Honeywell alarm can be a very easy upgrade. You might not even have to change more then the actual board and a keypad.

The starting packages cost 200 or so but if you have the battery, the metal box, the transformer and sensors your 95% done with install. Most new panels require a new keypad tho to match. So probley all keypads and the actual board in the metal box is all you need to change.

I did not do heal or anything else yesterday, but they are back this morning. I deleted them manually but this is obviously some kind of recurring bug. I really want to like Vera Edge since it seems to be more stable and faster then my Vera Light and I actually dig the new UI… but if USB port issue not resolved in another couple of weeks so I can integrate with my alarm, and I continue having these fake devices show up every few days I will send it back and go back to my Light.

I have a ticket open for this as well, mine seem to all be from the mimolite, I have left the phantoms there so vera support can see them, hopefully they will find a cause

Same here - I’ve also got a call open with MCV so they can see this situation instead of me just going and deleting them. I’ve got 42 !! “_Sensor” phantom devices automatically created in one room under UI7 on Edge.

The USB issue is a top priority to get resolved. Our Dev Team is working on it and expect the fix to be part of the January firmware update.
