I know this may fan some flames, but I do want to ask…
I have a honeywell based alarm system, but it isn’t one that can be integrated with Vera today. So now I am considering going down the path of the Vista 21P with an EVL3 board.
Based on what was announced from GetVera @ CES this year, should I consider waiting for the security based system that is coming out from them? I know they miss their dates on releases and everything like that, but I am more wondering if native vs. a plugin would be better. I have a massive amount of zwave throughout the house and would really only need to invest in zwave window and door sensors, along with a flood and smoke detector. Probably would come out to to be about as much as purchasing the Vista 21P, EVL3 board, and a panel.
What are your thoughts on this?[/quote]
I don’t trust VERA as my alarm and never recommend it as one.
I don’t have my system monitored (monthly fee) which is really one of the only changes they are making.
If I did want to monitor it I could get a 5.00-10.00 a month online monitoring service to do my current alarm panel where Vera wants to charge more.
They announced this idea over a year ago and it never happened. So will it be out anytime soon?
Actual Alarm panels have better sensors (range, battery life, pricing, availability, size) then what vera will do by adding a z-wave motion (which don’t work well on batteries) to their VERA.
VERA has a purpose and can be easily overloaded (hardware issues) It’s nice to have vera interact with the alarm, but for the alarm system to have to relay on Vera to do it’s job. My 130.00 Vera takes a crap tomorrow, has random reboots or any of the other common issues I’m only down one system not completely down without an alarm.
So It’s not for me! And One reason I’m here is to not pay a monthly fee. It might be the solution for others tho.
