MIMOLite Garage Controller

This is a placeholder for the documentation and support of a new Fortrez MIMOLite Garage Door Plugin. This is a new MIMOLite garage door plugin that allows a bit more flexibility for the sensor types and multiple MIMOLites controlling multiple doors.

I’m not quite finished it, but I’m starting on the documentation and setting up the project pages. I’ll edit this post later with the full documentation.

You been teasing us for some time already. Even after this is changed, the problem still going to be getting it implemented into the Phone and Tablet apps.

Richards “Garage Door” Plugin already has full support from I think all phone apps. It also works with not only the Mimolite but also any other dives as its universal. Also has built in dual open and close buttons with some sense on not opening if its already open. Bottom line is it works great with the only thing being the Icon, which only shows in the UI. And how many of use are useing the UI to control everything. We use the APP’s. But this goes back to Authomation and the rest that don’t support the “MIMOlite garage door” Plugin.

Hi there,

Just trying to get the mimolite working properly. I have installed it according to the instructions (remove jumper P5, wired COM1 and NO1 into the same spot as my door switch is wired). When I press the open/close button in the vera UI, the door will open and close but it also causes my wall switch to reset itself (it loses power and reboots as if it was unpluggeda dn then plugged back in again). In addition, the graphic of the open/closed door in the UI does not seem to change. That last bit is not an issue, because I rely on my door sensor and camera to know if the door is open, but wanted to mention in case it is relevant. Why is my door switch losing power/rebooting. I normally wouldn’t care but for the fact that it shows the time and want to be sure it isn’t a symptom of something else that could be wrong with how I’ve set this up.

Any help would be appreciated.

Rebooting sounds like you have a garage door with more then just a open closed contact. What kind of garage door do you have? All the mimo is going to do is connect the 2 wires together then release them. Does your wall switch do more then that? Control the light and such?

My garage door is a chamberlain liftmaster. My wall switch has 3 buttons on it. One to open/close the door, one to turn on/off the light on the garage door unit and one to lock the unit from opening/closing. On the garage door unit itself, you’ll see that there are 4 places for wires. The two on the left go to the opener and that is where I have put the connections to the mimolite. The two on the right go to the thingys (don’t remember the technical term) at each side of the door that keep it from closing if something is under the door.

Does that opener have batteries in it? looks like I see a clock and such on it. Does it get power from the overhead unit? If this is not an old dummy unit that works like a door bell (open circuit then closed momentarily while you press the button) then the mimolite will not work. If it is an old dummy unit. Proceed with the next test.

Where you hooked in the mimolite (two wires on back back of overhead unit), If you put a paperclip in the two to open and close the door, does it open and close? What I mean is short it out (closed the circuit) temporary with a paperclip then remove does that work properly? If so we have a mimolite issue we will work on next.

I have a similar wall switch. Its not a simple open close contact switch. Mine (and probably your) garage door opener can use either a simple button type switch or this LCD controller. If its using the LCD one, the opener knows this and also sends other data down the wire. So when you also connect a open close contact to it at the same time, it shorts out the connection momentarily causing the LCD to blank and sometimes reset. I got around it by wiring the open close switch (Mimolite) directly to the back of the LCD controller circuit board where the actual switch contacts are located. So in effect it mimics someone actually pressing the switch on the front.

I will have to check to see if there is a battery in the opener so can’t yet respond to integlikewhoa

In terms of Katmai’s reply, assuming that the only way to do it is to connect the mimolite to the back of the opener and that is not something I am going to do (not sure I have the skills just yet), is there any danger in keeping the configuration that I have. I only intend on using the mimolite in instances when I may have forgotten to close the garage door so it will be rare. What will happen if the connection is momentarily shorted out on occasion. Will it just reset itself as I originally described or is there danger that it might damage the door button or the overhead unit itself. Apologies if this question come across as completely ridiculous, but i’m just starting out here.

I’m just guessing but I’d say no, only because it seems to be designed to use either and the only way for it to know would be by actually hooking up a switch and using it. There is no on board selector.

Yes I’m thinking you have more then a basic dumb open and closed switch which means it wont work right and may or may not cause damage if you leave it.

And yes if you have a smart unit using an extra cheap remote and taking it apart and hooking the mimolite to it will be the only way to get it to work right if you have a smart system.

Not sure this is the right place for my question, so feel free to redirect. I’m trying to use mimolight with a hard wired sensor to monitor open/close, so not using the controller portion. I’ve added the device to vera, which shows up as an on/off switch, and then downloaded the mimolight app, but while it says it created two devices, they aren’t showing up on my devices page, so no place to enter the device info. Is this the right app? If so, what am I missing?

OK, uninstalled and reinstalled mimolite app and now I’m seeing Binary sensor, generic sensor and pulse sensor. I have my door sensor wired into the +/- ports on the mimolite and see the green light on the mimolite flashing on/off with contact, but no change in status of either the binary sensor or the generic sensor. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Note that I’m using the Mimolite app, not the Mimolight Garage door app…

So this is how it works. your install the mimolite. it only installs the relay (one device) they call that the parent.
after that you install the MIMOlite plugin (what your calling an app). It doesn’t install any child devices yet. From the device screen you only see the MIMOlite plugin.
Next you click the wrench, then advanced, then below “Variables” youll see “MIMO_Devices” you need to enter the device number from the main relay you created when you first included the MIMOlite (step #1). The device number is under the advanced tab in the top left corner.

You can not delete the relay or main device as that’s the parent. And your children need to be link to that one with the proper “Device number” or they wont change as is whats happening in your case. Vera created them but there is no link to the actual MIMOlite.

It’s really all in the instructions.

Hi.

I have Vera U17. Installed the Mimolite device, made the recommend changes as per instructions. The door opens and closes properly. What I do not have is the status button. I’ve installed the plugin (current version 0.6) and I see 2 devices created but these 2 devices to not show anywhere on the dashboard.
What am I missing.

Thanks

Katmai,

Do you have a liftmaster? How did you find the contacts?

What Vera do you have? I heard this is a problem with the EDGE. But on the lite and 3 you should get 3 devices after you open the plugin and add the main device number. They will dump in the no room section. If that didn’t work to resinstall the plugin and device number again. How do you know it created 2 devices?

Hi,

I also installed the mimolite garage controller. I installed the app MIMOlite Garage Door Contoller and it does not do anything. The default device that is installed when pairing works fine.

I also tried to install MIMOlite Plugin but it doesn’t do anything either so I don’t think I can access the door sensor.

Under the app itself you can see it says it created two devices. However, when you go to the main device page they are not there.

The plugins are not compatible with ui7 yet. What Vera do you have and what UI are you using?

I have a VeraEdge with what I assume is UI7. I updated to the latest firmware after receiving the unit.

Yes Edge only runs Ui7 and not able to downgrade that. I have PM’d the author of the plugin and also suggest more people do the same to get a push to fix the Mimolite plugins to work on the new hardware/software.
