I’ve been talking with Nancy @ MiCasaVerde on another issue and asked her about what to return.
Me:
I also had a question on returning my Vera2 for the $150 check. Do you want just the Vera2 unit itself or the Vera2 along with the wall plug, the battery pack etc? Exactly which pieces do we need to turn in, if any, beyond the Vera2 itself?
Nancy:
Yes, return everything that came with the Vera 2.
I still had the original box and all the parts so I packed everything up and sent it in just to be safe.
If you can’t find the battery pack, you can send the one from the Vera 3 and it doesn’t matter if it is working or not, all you have to do is send it back.
If you buy a new Vera 3 don’t be cheap like me and use priority mail. According to the post office’s tracking my Vera 3 has been stuck in the LA sorting facility for nearly two weeks. >:(
Does the Australian version of the Vera 3 not only cover the Australian frequency, but also come with an Australian plug?
Thanks
Also, if I purchase the Vera 3 from the micasaverde site, do I still have to send the Vera 2 to the US or European address, or can I send it to the Australian smarthome.com.au address?
So I ordered my Vera3 Last Friday the 10th, got a shipment notification yesterday and received it this morning (I’m in Missouri).
Per the instructions, I:
-Backed up the old unit (z wave then entire unit)
-Swapped the units
-Upgraded the Vera3 firmware
-Changed the router address
-Restored the backup
-Fixed the dongle address
Everything seems to work.
I was getting the “Stack overflow at line: 0/1” error on IE with the Vera2 and it showed back up after restoring the backup, so I’m thinking it may be a result of one of the apps I’m running.
I discovered that the openWRT password was restored with the one from the Vera2, negating the one shown on the sticker on the back (I noticed the new warning in the router firmware - I only use those pages to set up static DHCP leases).
Seems to boot and run OK. Time will tell how much improvement there is, but I feel more comfortable loading it up with more devices and rules…
When my Vera3 arrived a couple of months ago it did not have a stand. I called MCV sales support and was told that Vera3’s were not shipping with stands. I asked if they might have an extra Vera2 stand lying around that they could send me and they were able to do so. So I guess if you want a stand for your Vera3 at this time, you had better hold on to your Vera 2 stand.
I also emailed Sales Support a couple of days ago and asked what they wanted returned with my Vera2 unit to receive my Vera2 refund and I received this reply from Kelsey Fourdyce: Please return everything you have, including the battery pack, power cables, etc. Also, include your Vera3 order number with your Vera2 unit, so we can quickly process the refund.
Got mine packed up to go back.
My Vera 2 came with a vertical stand for the unit. My Vera 3 did not include one. Anyone get the stand with the 3?
So does that mean we should leave the unit flat when possible? I have mine on end thinking that provided the best antenna position, but as they are not including it there must be a reason.
Just got my US Vera 3 in. Backup up my Vera 2 and attempted to install the Vera 3.
First hurdle:
The PSU that came with it definitely is not a US one. It has two flat prongs angled at 45 degrees on a round platform. Doesn’t look European, Australian maybe? Using my Vera 2 PSU now as it has the same rating. Will see what sales can do here as I would like a new PSU to go with my new Vera 3.
Second hurdle:
Firmware update does not see the Vera 3 on either Firefox or Opera browsers. Luckily I got it to work on IE8.
Took a few tries to get MIOS .com to come up with the ‘Vera not registered to your account, want to add’ dialog but I got her added.
Third hurdle:
Restored back to the Vera3, set the port to /dev/ttyS0. reset unit. All devices are listed but any attempt to access them results in a ‘Z-Wave not ready’ error.
How do I determine what Z-wave (US/EU/AU) this unit has without opening it up? As teh PSU wasn’t US, I’m starting to worry that the unit itself may not be either. (The PSU for the battery was US though)
I’m running a repair right now and am keeping my fingers crossed.
several hours later:
The repair failed, Vera isn’t recognizing any of my devices. My entire setup is down. Unfortunately since MCV sent the wrong PSU, I cannot run my old Vera in tandem.
Any suggestions to get this resolved would be greatly appreciated.
The unit you received is a european unit and will not work with US zwave. You will need to contact MCV support to have a new unit delivered. I had the same issue when they units were sent out to the Beta team.
censored No wonder it’s not recognizing my network. I suspected as much with the PSU being wrong.
Time to hook Vera 2 back up.
Thanks Garrett as I was about to tear my hair out.
Update: I hooked Vera 2 back up and all is well again. Fired off an email to sales to see what MCV can do to remedy this mix-up. It would be nice if the units were marked with a US/EU/AU designation or showed it on the page or via a shell command.
Update: Heard from MCV. They aare sending me a return label and will expedite shipping me a US model. Woohoo!!!

@BOFH,
Can you get the values for the following:
[tt]cat /etc/cmh/zwave_locale[/tt]
and the value of “[tt]Zwave_Locale[/tt]” from [tt]/etc/cmh/cmh.conf[/tt]
On mine, these are both “[tt]us[/tt]”, but I’m interested to see what they are on yours. From the Pin descriptions for the PSU, it’s Australian.
Thanks for that. Although fluent in BSD, I’m not a Linux guru. I hooked Vera3 back up so I could access it.
As I feared from the plug, this Vera is a indeed a Sheila. telling me ‘au’ on both below settings. And yes, that’s the exact plug, Australian as I suspected.

My Vera 3 (US this time) came in last wednesday and today is the day for round 2.
Unplugged Vera2, Plugged in Vera3
Updated firmware in Vera3
Restored backup to Vera3
Fixed zwave port to /dev/ttyS0
Kept fingers crossed and attempted to switch my office light on via Vera. Hallelujah! I see the light!
All this took less than 15 minutes.
Now I have 3 Vera’s on my account. The delete trick mentioned in several posts does not work. Guess I’ll have to wait for the AU Vera 3 to drop off. I still have 2 and will try the delete trick on it before I ship it back. Going to let vera3 work for about a week to make sure no problems crop up.
In order for the delete function to work, the Vera you want to delete will need to be active on the network. It may also take a few days for it to disappear on MCV’s end.
