Limited Time Upgrade Offer for Vera1/2 Owners!

I’ve done some research about this upgrade.
I replied to the MCV email in regards to this upgrade asking if it was valid for AUS.
Got a very quick response from MCV replying “this offer is valid for AUS Vera owners”.
I replied back asking if they can send me a AUS versions of Vera 3.
They again very quickly replied back saying yes AUS version of Vera 3 is available from their store.

All you have to do is buy the AUS Vera 3 (there is an option to choose your version) from their store. Once you received your Vera 3, send your old Vera back to Los Angeles or Romanian office to receive $150 discount.

Things to consider:

 1. Vera3 costs 299.00 off the MCV shop + 52.00 Express Mail International (Melbourne, Australia) = $351
 2. Smarthome.com.au are selling Vera3 for $348
 3. However you will need to send you old Vera back which will cost you shipping.
 4. Shipping shouldn’t cost you anymore than $50 so it’s basically a $100 discount once you get the $150 back.

*Be careful as MCV states that your old Vera has to be returned by 30th of September in order to get the $150

@nkala16,

Welcome!

Any taxes and/or duties due when shipping US to AUS; any customs forms to fill out when shipping back?

Is the offer valid for all Vera 2s you own? I have two, so would I be eligible to upgrade both at 50% off?

No taxes or duties for total under $ 999. There is a fees for items sent to the US over 500 grams I just sent an it 990 grams (GC100-18) back recently and it was under $50 total.

I’ve seen that the Vera 3 AU versions are available for purchase from our shop now, so all z-wave ranges should be covered. I can’t see why the offer shouldn’t be available for all the Vera’s you own.

I replied to the email but haven’t heard back yet. Is Micasaverde considering a deal for us Vera 2 users to upgrade to a VeraLite instead? I really to not need the WiFi/router functionality on a Vera3 (Not using it on my vrea2 either) but would like to upgrade to a VeraLite.

Thanks!
I would definatly take advantage of the deal if it was 50% off a vera lite, as I am quite happy with my custom router/ wifi’s and do not need another.

Same here just want Vera lite

Even if you don’t want to use a router I think $149 for a Vera 3 is a much better deal that $80 (50% off) for a Vera Lite. The Vera 3 has twice the ram. I would just get the Vera 3 and turn the router off. That is exactly what I plan on doing, as I also don’t need a wireless router (this is also how I have my Vera 2 set up).

Well, hopefully this is worth it because I have my Vera 3 on order. :slight_smile:

Just bought a vera 3 upgrade.

I noticed that I did have to pay shipping in addition to the $299.00. Anyhow, I look forward to getting my new vera3.

Good thing they give me almost 2 months to migrate all of my devices and apps over and test it out. I am still on the older UI on my vera2.

What about taxes, duty and shipping to Canada? Then shipping unit back to US? Almost pays to buy the unit from a Canadian distributor and forgo the rebate.

Any other options for Canadians who have purchased Vera 1, then Vera2?

Thanks
OK, I’ve been using my Vera 2 (UI4) for about 7 months and it is working well. I am considering buying into the ‘upgrade’ offer just posted but have some concerns. Hoping some others have can shed some experience with me to help decide if upgrading is a wise decision.

My system hardware consists of numerous outlets and switches which should not be a problem. There is 1 Kwikset door lock, 2 motion sensors, 2 Trane thermostats, a DSC 1832 alarm panel, and a Leviton 4 button zone controller.

On the software side I am using the following plug-ins or add-ons: Smart Phone plug in, T-Stat Min/Max plug in and DCS Plug in as well as Google Weather, Ping Sensor, Virtual Switches, Home Care, Variables Container, Luup System Info, Holiday Calendar and Vera Alert.

So, its a fairly complex set up that I would hate to have to recreate. I did try the UI5 upgrade early on with miserable results, and ended up going back to UI4. Have not tried the UI5 upgrade since then, even though some users are having good results.

My concerns are: In order to migrate to a Vera 3 I will need to upgrade to UI5 first to create a backup that can be uploaded to the Vera 3. If my upgrade goes afoul again there will be considerable pains while resotring to UI4 plus the inability to use a new Vera 3. If the upgrade goes OK, what can I expect NOT to work on the Vera 3? Surely it is unrealistic to believe that everything will work without some tweaking, and I fear that some things may not work at all.

Any feedback from users who have traveled down this path would be greatly appreciated.

+1 on the same…
My Vera2 works fine no issues but it can bog down once in a wihle so I’m hesitant about upgrades if I wind up w/reliability issues

@syyid,

If you have a look recent posts it may give you a better indication of how others that have ventured along the upgrade path to a Vera 3. E.g.
http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,10145.msg81942.html#msg81942

You should upgrade to Ui5 first using MiOS. Ensue you have USB logging before attempting, it will assist.

UI5 is very stable now but they are a few issues and without knowing your configuration, most user will realise a real system improvement if they upgrade due to new hardware specifications and increased memory.

In addition, they are some very useful and well designed apps that are available in UI5. It is also worth noting: that it is UI5 where the focus and development will be done and this includes new z-wave equipment. To name a few apps that are widely used in UI5;
Combination Virtual Switch,
DataMine
Variable Container
Countdown Timer

And a new one - Smart Switch (newly released)

I hope this assist in making your decision.

After using the Vera 2 with UI4 for a year with great results, I upgraded to UI5 and it is fine.

I’m in for the trade-in program, just ordered.

When you send in your Vera2 do you have to send in just the Vera2 unit itself or do you need to include the wall plug? the battery pack?

Thanks!

About to pull the trigger on the upgrade, wondering the same thing myself. What do we have to send back?

Ok, maybe a silly question. I’m thinking seriously about this as well. What’s the process for migrating from Vera2 to Vera3? Can all my scenes, devices, etc be migrated to the Vera3, or do I need to re-add all the devices and start from scratch? My network isn’t huge, and we’re in the process of moving in the next few months, so resetting everything would be fine. I have some custom scenes and code I’d need to copy off.

Scratch that. I just found this doc. Might be helpful for anyone else with the same question.

This has been asked many times. To upgrade from Vera 2 to Vera 3. You would need to make a backup of your Vera 2 to be safe. Upgrade Vera 2 to UI5 and create a new backup of the upgraded Vera 2 running UI5. Than take that backup and restore it over to Vera 3.

I’d like clarification on this too if anyone gets an answer. My battery pack never worked, and I don’t know where it is.
