Has anyone tried this Leviton light switch: http://www.amazon.com/Leviton-DZS15-1LZ-Decora-Controls-Capable/dp/B00LEWQYHG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1406541995&sr=8-1&keywords=DZS15-1LZ&dpPl=1
It has a nice price point of $49 and is scene capable

I admit I’m still confused by Leviton switches and their naming process.
I think the difference between this and the VRS15-1LZ is that these don’t have the Vizia+ RF so you wouldn’t be able to use them with a remote switch in a 3 way situation. I’m not sure if you could use two of them together in that situation.
I emailed Leviton since it was after hours for their live chat. I’ll post what they reply.
The email I got back is that they haven’t heard of it. ???
I sent them links to the Amazon and Home Depot pages.
I hope this is a Z-Wave version without RF+. My guess is that they are creating a new switch series that is advertised as “Works with Wink” but can be used with any controller at a price point that is more in line with other switches on the market. It will sure save a lot of money!
We just yesterday finished replacing all our switches with VRS15, VRE06, and VRF01 switches and coordinating remote switches, so it’s too late to save us any money, but for the benefit of others in this community, it would certainly be nice if these were a less expensive version of the VRS15. I wonder what makes them cheaper though? I tried the VRMX1 (a cheaper Leviton universal dimmer that looks like the VRE06) a couple months ago, and the dimmer bar was unusable, as I couldn’t press the dimmer rocker. Works fine on the VRE06, but not the VRMX1. Others on various forums complained about the same issue. In that instance, less expensive really did mean cheaper.
Here is the reply:
The line was developed specifically as low cost devices that will attach to standard Z-Wave hubs. The DZ versions are not designed for use in vizia rf + systems; therefore, they are not compatible with the vizia rf + status reporting commands which are necessary for updating information to keypad LEDs and the VRC0P-1LW serial interface.
So yes, looks like they are dropping the RF+ part and going straight Z-Wave to save money.
They did not indicate if it can be used in a 3 way setup, I asked and if so what remote switches to use.
There is also now a dimmer! http://www.amazon.com/Leviton-DZMX1-1LZ-Controls-Capable-Universal/dp/B00LEWQY6C/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1406776851&sr=8-4&keywords=lEVITON+Z-WAVE+DIMMER
WOW… that’s a big price difference. Especially if they work. Very interested in what they say about 3-way.
Interestingly, I can’t find anything about the DZ line on the Leviton website. They are now available locally at HomeDepot as part of the Wink offer. Has anyone tried these with Vera?
I knew they were online at Home Depot, good news about them being available locally. I’ll need to check my stores.
I may have to pick one up to check it out with the ability to return it if it doesn’t work. I only have one single pole application so I really hope there are 3 way options. I think this is a great move for Leviton as people always shied away from them due to the high price.
I checked the Leviton site too. Looks like Amazon/Home Depot is faster than the marketing department for Leviton.
I wonder if that means they do not support instant status given their response. If anyone picks one up, please list the switch capabilities.
I have one of these and it does work fine with Vera. I compared the capabilities with a RZS15 and it looks like the only thing missing is associations. Here are the listed capabilities: 211,156,0,4,16,3,L,R,B,RS,|37,39,43,44,114,115,119,134,145. The instructions do mention using it in a 3-way or 4-way setup but I am not sure which switch it would pair with.
Andrew
I checked Home Depot and it’s not sold by me. Thanks asbeck37 for listing the capabilities. Unfortunately, I don’t know how to read them but I’m sure many here do.
Can you confirm if it has instant status, meaning if you use the switch it will update automatically on the Vera UI?
This switch is such a tease! It looks like a perfect fit but there is no online documentation for it.
And they added Beaming. Leviton must be doing HAIL (normally used for Instant Status) in a different manner since the old modules have it, but aren’t advertising it via [tt]COMMAND_CLASS_HAIL[/tt].
@RHINESEL, if you’re interested in what the codes mean, they’re outlined here:
http://wiki.micasaverde.com/index.php/ZWave_Command_Classes
I am not home to test right now but I believe it does because it set itself to never poll and I have other lights which trigger off it being turned on which come on immediately. I will verify when I can however. Yes, I noticed that it did not show HAIL as well, but neither did my RZS15 which I know does have Instant Status so it must be using a different code or not advertising the fact like guessed mentioned.
The DZ line is growing. Just spotted an outlet on Amazon.

I think I’ll order a switch to scour the instructions for any mention of another type of switch for a 3 way. If anything, I can just use it in a single pole position for my bathroom fan.
Asbeck37: do the instructions mention “remote switch” in regards to a 3 way setup? Do you happen to have any capability to scan the instructions? If not, I’ll scan mine when it comes in.
Ok, I just looked at the instructions and it looks like it can be used with a VP0SR-10Z Coordinating Remote Switch (no LED) or VP0SR-1LZ Matching Remote Switch with LED. It says it can be used with up to 9 coordinating remotes without LEDs or up to 4 matching remotes with LEDs. It has wiring diagrams included for both scenarios.
That’s great news. If memory serves me right those are the same remote switches that the VRS15-1LZ uses. That probably means the dimmer works with the VP00R-1LZ.
Oh and BTW, I forgot to mention that I tried pressing the switch manually and watching Vera for update and it did change status immediately so I believe that it does support Instant Status. So the only thing you couldn’t do would be create associations. The instructions say not for use with Vizia RF lighting systems but the switch itself has a sticker on it that says RF+ so go figure.
maybe i’m missing something, but since it’s a single dimmer switched hardwired to the load, isn’t an associate irrelevant?
In my house, there are two entrances to the kitchen, at opposite ends of the room. There’s no light switch near one entrance, so you have to walk through the dark kitchen to hit the only switch.
There’s no existing wiring for 3-way switches between the two locations, and it would be a nightmare to try to run new wiring.
In theory, I should be able to put a new switch at the end of the room that doesn’t have one, simply tie it into power from an existing outlet (no need for 3-way wiring between switches) and use direct associations to get it to control the other switch. Basically, making a wireless 3-way setup.
An edge case, perhaps, but direct associations would be useful here.
Yeah, the VRS15-1LZ uses the VP0SR-1LZ for its hard-wired remote. I installed 3 new VRS15’s and 4 new VP0SR’s on Sunday, for two 3-way setups and one 4-way setup.
