Home Buddy 0.28 BETA [CLOSED]

New build is out with one change: styled buttons to make active state more prominent. Let me know what you think.

It’s coming along very nicely.

For thermostats, any thoughts on using the mode to determine if the heat, cool, both (auto) or neither (off) set points display? E.G. If mode set to heat, only show heat set point.

Also, consider displaying cool set point above the heat set point. This way, for those using auto, you see the upper temp (cool) and lower temp (heat) from top to bottom instead of from bottom to top.

I have three modes: normal, Energy Save, and hold. Hold tells the thermostat to bypass the internal scheduler (Trade thermostat has built in scheduler), like when you go on vacation. It may be that Vera does not support it, which would explain Home Buddy only showing two.

Lastly, for camera, I still do not get auto refresh of the static image (I don’t have streaming integration for this camera on the Vera).

Just released a new build with your suggestions above, please check it out.

Regarding the camera image, I don’t auto refresh the camera image on its own. You need to either hit refresh on the upper left or set the auto refresh interval in settings.

Re. thermostat enhancements, I am VERY impressed. I sincerely thank you for incorporating.

I’m happy to oblige

New build is out:

  • Fixed camera streaming on ICS
  • Fixed some styles
  • Added vibration on error

I think we’re getting close to an official release. Please let me know of any bugs that I’ve missed before I push this baby out. Thanks.

Can you add a setup selection that keeps the voice commands turned on for scenes all the time instead of having to select it each time. This would allow scenes to be run by voice from all the android touch panels in the house as I only use Asus EEE primes at this time. It is functioning very well for our needs and you have done an outstanding job in developing it.

Hey Rakstar!

Great app! I am using V0.27 integrated with tasker.

When tasker senses my home wifi ssid, it calls Home Buddy to trigger a scene that turns on outside lights (if after sundown) and unlocks outside doors. Way Cool!

Unfortunately, when I upgraded to V0.28, tasker Action Intent ceased functioning. homebuddy://scene/1 does not work anymore. I get “Home Buddy stopped working” message.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

idlewild

One more item on thermostat. The label is missing from above the off, heat, cool, auto drop down. Here are the Trane labels for all the features:

System Mode: Off, Heating, Cooling, Auto

Fan Mode: Auto, On

Schedule Mode: Hold, Run, Energy Save Mode

@ehillis thanks for the kind words, and most especially for the donation! i really appreciate it!

i also sent you an email separately… will long-pressing the Search hardware button to bring up Speak-a-Scene work for you? what does that currently do on the Asus EEE Prime?

Nice to hear that Tasker + Home Buddy being used out there!

Sorry for the inconvenience. In the new version, because Home Buddy now supports multiple Veras, I needed to include the Vera serial in the URL, so here’s the new format:

homebuddy://activate?vera=&scene=

Please try that and let me know how it works out for you. Thanks.

I have a Wayne Dalton thermostat and am seeing different labels/options (UI5) … can you send me screenshots and your user data?

I’m on it too

Rakstar, thanks for your work on this! I just got my Vera2 and set it up. Checked for iOS and Android apps and ran into Home Buddy.

It works very well on both a 7" ZT180 tablet (android 2.2) and an HP TouchPad running CM9 (ICS).
Most of my z-wave is GE/JASCO together wiith some Intermatic. As well as Schlage locks (both deadbolt and lever) HVAC is the Trane 400.

It doesn’t seem to have a problem with any of the devices and shows the correct values for the thermostat.

This will make it easy to check from work. I also run some web cams so I can keep an eye on my dogs. Now I can switch on a light if the image is to dark…

I think the ole ZT180 has found a new job as a Z-Wave remote…

censored This z-wave stuff is way to addictive…

Sorry, I should have clarified that the items I listed are how my thermostat describes them on the LCD display. In terms of UI4, the Trane thermostat looks like any other I believe:

Thermostat commands: Off, Auto, Cool, Heat
Fan commands: Auto, On
Energy Save Mode: Energy, Normal (“Mode” is masked by the Energy button)

I don’t know why the Zwave profile does not include the Hold item in the Energy Save Mode selections. If I select Hold (suspend schedule) or Run (set temp per the programmed schedule) on the Trane thermostat, both Hold and Run are considered “Normal” on UI4.

Interestingly, Vera does not display the current Energy Save mode in UI4. The good news is that Home Buddy does

So… back to my original comment, the Vera label “Thermostat commands” is missing from Home Buddy.

And I’m upgrading to UI5 now and will confirm that all of the above remain true.

Updated Post:

Added UI5 screenshot

Labels updated on UI5:

Thermostat: Off, Auto, Cool, Heat
Fan: Auto, On, Cycle
Energy Save: Energy, Normal

I would also agree / vote for inclusion of the Vera feature “Rooms” so that devices can be grouped.

EDIT: If rooms are created and devices assigned, a subsequent clear of Home Buddy was needed in my test.

Yeah!

That works great!

Thanks, Rakstar!!

New build is up. Haven’t released yet to include some last minute requests…

Changes in this one include:

  • Reversed window covering open/close labels
  • Room names can now go to 2 lines (in case of really long names)
  • Variable Container support

Hi Rakstar,

Great to have the Variable Containers available in Home Buddy.

I noticed that from my VContainers several values were missing. I turns out that the values are only shown when the variable names are the default ones (e.g. Variable1). All variables that I gave a meaningful name have no value.

Apart from this Home Buddy is working great for me. Thanks

Hmm, I don’t really use this plugin so I’m not too familiar with the use case… could you send me your user data?
