Foscam FI8910W - unable to stream video when outside the network

Hi just got my Foscam FI8910W yesterday in the mail, and was all exited to set it up.
I downloaded the Foscam plug-in and it was a breeze setting up the camera. I was able to see live stream via the Micasa Verde web interface and was also able to see live stream video via my automator.app.

Now at work, trying to check-in on home, and I realize that live-stream is not working as expected. Logged into the webinterface of the Micasa Verde and I only see snapshots.

Does anybody know how to solve this. I just received my Micasa Verde Light 1 month ago, so I am fairly new to all of this.

Setup:
Micasa Verde Light- UI5
Camera - Foscam FI8910W

Help!!

Live streaming will not work under UI5 remotely with 3rd party apps. This is something that has been mentioned many times.

Can you recommend a indoor as well as outdoor camera that will work with the life-streaming?

Not sure I understand the question. Live streaming will not work with any camera outside of the network with 3rd party software like Automator.app, iVera, HomeBuddy, AutHomation, etc. MCV removed the code that allows the camera to be tunneled through vera and stream outside of the network over the internet.

Thanks, just to verify, even if I log on to mios.com from work to check the system I would only see still images, regardless of the camera solution?

Thx

If you are viewing from the Vera (mios), you should be able to view the live stream.

Just curious. How bad is it? Snapshots happening how quickly?

On my iPhone’s 3G connection via iVera app or automator.app I’m able to see snapshots that refresh as fast as the 3G connection can reload the screen. I’m assuming that this is what everyone else sees when viewing off your home network, correct? The images still refresh fairly quickly however, so for example from my front window I’ll see a car coming down the street, then it’s in front of my camera, then in the next screen it’s almost out of view. When I’m in my home network I’m able to use mobile apps that can stream the images in real-time so I see exactly what the camera sees (I’m assuming because the connection is so much faster over my home networks wi-fi).

What is so important about live streaming from the Verde, why not live stream via a free or low cost iPhone or Android app. I use IP Cam Viewer on my android phone, works great. I think there’s even Foscam specific viewers but why not go with a generic one and use it with newer better cameras.

I am able to view the video as snapshots as fast as my 3G connection can serve them up with MIOS, Automator and SQRemote HD.

For normal monitoring I use Live Cams Pro. You can see fast refresh rate plus have 2 way audio. I have my camera on the front door send me a text message anytime it detects motion and the camera emails me a 5 sequential snapshots of the motion detected, if I want to see more I open Live Cams Pro. I highly recommend this app with Foscam cameras as it makes it easier to view and set presets, motion detection settings, turn on and off IR lights and much more for the low cost of $2.99 last time I checked.

Another nice feature is to run the Live Cams Pro on your iPhone or iPad and use AirPlay to send the videos to the TV for a in home security view or baby monitor with audio.

Chris,

Does Live Cams Pro allow you to view your cameras over 3G? I have a few cam viewer apps but they only work over my home wifi. I’m looking for one that I could view my cameras remotely over 3G, but at home, I could use my wifi for true “live” streaming video. How well does the audio work with Live Cam Pro?

I use the same programs as Chris H. and they work great. To view your cameras over 3G you need to use a Dynnamic DNS service (several options but I use DynDNS.org) and have port forwarding properly setup with the cameras and router.

Yes you can view your cams remotely as long as you setup DynDNS or some other service that gives you a name on the Internet and the cameras or your router will update the name with your current ip address when it changes unless you have a static ip address then you can bypass this process.

Also as Trotsky40 mentioned you will need to forward ports on your router to the internal ip address. This is much simpler than it sounds and there are a lot of references to do this but you can also feel free to message me if you need help. As an example if your camera has a local ip address of 192.168.1.201 with a port number 201 than you configure your router to forward port 201 to 192.168.1.201 so the camera address on the Internet would be http://example.dyndns-homeip.com:201

I have tried most of the camera apps on the app store with the Foscam cameras and Live Cams Pro is the best I have found and cheap. The developer is always adding new features, one of the latest is to record live video from your camera to your camera roll on your iPhone or iPad. It’s video only at this time but still a nice feature.

I’m having a discussion with my Unix server/firewall right now about forwarding ports. It’s being stubborn and doesn’t want to.
I’ve countered with starting to build an HP N40L with the latest OS version. :slight_smile:

Right now, to access from external network, I use the free Vera Moble app on my iPhone and it actually seems to be streaming video as I can see my dogs move and the ceiling fan spinning.

Hi Garrett –

I am able to get live streaming over the internet. Ivera also streams the data live outside the lan,

Don

How are you getting live streaming over the internet? Are you referring to the Vera’s web interface? IVera is most likely retrieving the image every so many n times. UI5 does not implement the port forwarding that was required to forward the camera stream through Vera’s gateway. This was available in UI4 and not made into UI5. MCVFlorin confirmed this.

https://fwd2.mios.com////data_request?id=lu_camera_port&DeviceNum=

Go to one of the following links above. Use the correct fwd address that you vera is using. Replace , , and with the correct cp.mios.com credentials. Do you get a response showing the host (ip) address in the link? e.g.

Does it look like this:

{“status”:“forwarded”,“url”:“http://1234:1234@:3482/videostream.cgi”}

If it is this one, streaming does not work.

or

{“status”:“forwarded”,“url”:“http://1234:1234@5.5.5.5:3482/videostream.cgi”}

If it is this one, then streaming will work. If that is the case are you on UI4?

Like @garrettwp, I also believe that remote streaming has in effect been disabled in UI5.

(The mechanism is still there, but the underlying tools to temporarily open up your router or report your external IP appear to have been disabled/removed/etc. The forwarding of the stream through Vera is still set up. So in the right environment you can still access your cameras through the posted link, after manually supplying your external IP. (I once had it set up in SQ Remote, with a single web view to see the streaming video and buttons (to activate scenes) to select between cameras (per the posted data_request).)

Hi garrettwp

I tried what you suggested but got hung up on the “data_request?id=lu_camera_port”

Don

Did you replace , , and , and tried both fwd1 and fwd2?

Regardless, we’re curious about whether you’re running UI5 or not, and whether iVera appears to be truly streaming or just quickly refreshing snapshots?

Hello

I’m trying to find the exact URL link to see my foscam outside the network.
I did perform those test :
https://fwd1.mios.com////data_request?id=lu_camera_port&DeviceNum=
and got following response
{“status”:“forwarded”,“url”:“http://1234:1234@:3482/videostream.cgi”}

I know the link should start with: https://fwd1.mios.com//// …but not sure what is next

Thanks for help and understanding
