Dimming Plug-in Module for LEDs

I recently installed some LED lighting underneath my bed and plugged it into a dimming lamp module. It seemed to work perfectly - I was able to brighten/dim the LEDs through a fairly broad range. However, it wasn’t until I went to sleep that night, when my room was very dark, that I noticed the LEDs were not completely turning off. Even with the dimmer module “Off” the LEDs are still faintly lit, and I realized that the dimming module is allowing some load to pass through (just like a two-wire in-wall dimming switch).

The module I was using is an Intermatic. I suspect the Leviton will behave the same way since it has the load-sensing function that allows you to use the switch on the lamp itself. Is anyone aware of a dimming plug-in module that completely cuts the load when turned off (like a three-wire in-wall dimmer switch wired to a neutral)?

For now, I’ve replaced the dimming module with an appliance module, but I really would like to to be able to dim the LED strip.

Has been working great for me!

Update

I found a dimming lamp module at TopGreener.com that indicated it was CFL & LED compatible. I just received it and works perfectly. It dims to complete OFF, so problem has been solved. The model number of the module is ZW1P if anyone is interested.

I suppose it’s possible that the Leviton module would have worked as well, but the price difference between the two was significant, so I figured I’d give this one a try first.

Nice find.

I have some Leviton Lamp VRP03-1LW modules and really wish there was a way to disable this.

It causes some digital picture speakers frames to “click” every few seconds when it sends some current down.
