Chamberlain/Liftmaster MyQ Plugin

Hey guys, first of all I love this plug-in! Second, I just learned something that I thought I’d share. I have 2 garage door openers, one being a new MyQ Chamberlain model and my other is an old lift master 1245r (manufactured in 1999). I found a new control panel (888LM) that would convert my old lift master to be compatible with MyQ.

So I ordered the 888LM on Amazon for about $35, and installed it. Went through the MyQ app to add another door, it detected my single door and is up and working. After a LUUP reload my 2nd door is in Vera as well!

This can be done with a wide range of older Liftmaster/Chamberlain doors manufactured after 1998, below is a list I found on a resellers site.

LiftMaster Compatible Models
1240R 1356 2565 3240M 3585 8360 1245R 2110 2575 3255
3585S 8500 1246R 2220 2580 3265 3595 8550 1255R 2245
2585 3270 3595S 8557 1256R 2255 2595 3275 3800 8587
1265 2265 3110 3280 3800P 985 1280R 2280 3130 3280M
3800PLD ATS2113X 1345 2500 3130M 3500 3840 ATS211R
1346 2500B 3220 3575 3850 ATS211X 1355 2500D 3240 3575S 8355

Please note that if you don’t already have a MyQ system you will also need the internet gateway 828LM.

I had a little problem getting it installed and synced to the myq account but it’s working great now. Thanks!

I skimmed the thread but I didn’t read every post so here’s my feedback:

[ol][li]I do wish it showed up as a swipe-able garage door instead of a pin code door lock, like the myq and wink app do but it does open and close so that’s nice. [/li]
[li]I’d like to be able to disable/set the alarm time perhaps based on “modes” so it doesn’t sound the alarm when set to “home” mode, it sounds way too long, for my tastes, by default. [/li]
[li]Perhaps an option to auto-close the door after X with a button to disable/enable if you want to leave it open longer on occasion? [/li][/ol]

Thanks again!

  1. My install does not require a pin code. Where are you seeing that?
2 & 3. Yes, these would be handy. I use PLEG conditions to control the auto-close.

!GarageMS and Garage2OPEN and (Garage2OPEN;!GarageMS > 10:00)

… when there is no Motion (MS in garage) then close the garage

I didn’t say it “required a pin code”, just that vera thinks my garage door is a pin-code-door-lock instead of a garage opener. Look in the details and you see options to set pin codes, etc…like a door lock.

You lost me on the “PLEG” but I’m new to vera.

(does the CAPTCHA crap ever go away?)

Search on PLEG. If you do any Scene Automation beyond very basic stuff, your Vera world will get MUCH better… unless you are a coder and prefer to write everything in LUA.

Yeah the robust scenes are partly why I switched to Vera; the crappy wink app has serious shortcomings. I am NOT a programmer but I do have decades of IT server/network management/admin exp. I’ll look it up…

You hit the magic 5 and your curse should now take effect.

Actually, in Ui7 if you use geofencing, you can have the door auto close if you leave the fenced area. I found that out when I went accross the street to get gas for my mower. I got back to a closed door when I knew I left it open. Took some digging into My Modes to find the answer.

Yeah I can karma and stuff now too.

I can easily imagine leaving my phone inside and having the garage auto-close if I’m not careful. I could go with pin code door locks for entry, just in case but I use my garage for entry/exit so I haven’t used a door or keys in years; I’m not even sure where my door keys are. There are plenty of options for emergency access though.

Question:
What size UPS is recommended for a 1/2hp chamberlain liftmaster opener?

Belt and suspenders type myself. My outside doors all have Schlage Z-wave locks so I have other ways of getting inside.

On the UPS, I would not know. The ones with a built-in UPS list replacement batteries as 12V 5AH.

Well my research didn’t give definitive answers on the UPS question either but I did find one you can buy that gave some specs. It was an 800va pure sine wave UPS with a 7AH battery and it claimed to give 20 complete cycles within 24 hours of power loss which is more than enough for me but it didn’t give the size of the opener or door. Others had 8AH-9AH batteries and claimed 20-50 cycles but didn’t they give the load specs.

Even a few cycles would be plenty for my use, so for under $100.00 I can get a pure sine wave computer UPS that will be more than enough for my load.

Anyone else having issues with their openers? I logged into my VeraEdge today and both of my openers were missing. The MyQ Plugin shows it authenticated recently but on the MyQ Setup tab it was showing under “My Q Devices found” that it had failed. I uninstalled the plugin and reinstalled, now after entering my login info on the main MyQ plugin page it shows “Last Auth Mon 21:50” (thats AZ time), but on the MyQ Setup tab it shows my user name and password but “MyQ Devices found” says that my user name and password aren’t setup.

Did Chamberlain make a change to their API?

Mine looks and acts normal on UI7.

They had a reported outage and then did an upgrade or some type of emergency fix. You should have gotten an email from them. If you aren’t getting those notices call them and ask why not.

Yeah I received that email and didn’t put 2 and 2 together, but the plugin still isn’t functioning properly on my VeraEdge. Still stuck showing it authenticated recently but on the MyQ setup tab it says the user name and password haven’t been set.

Not sure what to say. I would suggest uninstalling the plugin and reinstall. I don’t have the Edge but I don’t think it’s an edge issue.

Yeah I’m not sure what’s going on either. After uninstalling the plug-in for a second time I checked and all the MyQ plugin files were still on my Vera, so I manually deleted them and reinstalled the plugin. After entering all required information again, I’m back where I started with getting the “Username not configured. Password not configured” even it shows both on the same screen, plus in the variables tab. I’m stumped…

And I’m assuming you have selected Chamberlain or Liftmaster or Craftsman?

Have you tried your app and/or gone to the browser to double check your login?

I’m assuming you hit “Update”. Sorry just trying to throw things out there…

Yes, I selected Chamberlain first, then on the top of the screen (in blue) it’ll state I need to enter my user name and password. Once I do that, hit update, it just sits there and below where you enter your user info it says it’s not filled in.

My Chamberlain app is working, and I’ve logged into the web interface using same credentials to make sure my info is correct.

I spent most of the day today messing around with it without success.

At the bottom of MyQ setup, there is Advanced. Not Advanced from the top area but the bottom of the setup. Can you manually enter your variables there or prove there isn’t something erroneous set in there? This shows username/password and all that stuff as variables. Not the variables with device related properties.

Yeah it shows my correct login information, but and shows it authenticated but nothing populates. I gave up, I’ve spent too much time trying to get this working like it was before. I’m using my Wink hub to control the doors now and my Wink plugin puts the doors into Vera now. Thanks for all your help tomtcom.
