Cannot View or Download Recorded Video

I cannot view or retrieve video recorded.

Capture3.png lists 2 video files. Capture2.png is the error message I get trying to view it using IE (similar error in Chrome). Capture.png is the server error I get trying to download the file (more information in Chrome, but not helpful).

I opened a ticket with Customer Care. Will post the results, unless someone knows of a Vera setting messing me up.

I offer no help however, I have experienced this issue as of today. It is possible it has been longer. The only reason I knew of it now was because motion was detected by a sensor. When I went to look at the video, I received an error message indicating there was a server error.

I have been having this issue also, since updating the VeraPlus to 1.7.2414.
Video playback/download no longer functions. I am using the Blue Iris plugin for my cameras. Worked fine before the update to the new firmware. Video Record still appears to “work” in that the clip shows up in the Cameras>Recorded view. but when activating the “play” button, the error seen in the attached JPG is encountered:
“no video with supported format and MIME type found”
When then clicking on the “download” button, another page opens with the following error:
“ERROR:Storage file error”
I opened a ticket at Customer Care, and here is the reply so far:
“Thank you again for the prompt feedback.
Our quality assurance department has tested this for the past few days and it seems that this occurs randomly on third party cameras.
Vera comes with the silver package which offers the end user the possibility to record a video when using one of our Vistacam cameras.
Basically, on other cameras you can use that 1gb of storage for snapshots without issue for the moment. We are still working on this, please find the attached screenshot.”

So, basically the firmware upgrade resulted in me loosing a function I had under the previous firmware. Snapshots still work, but kind of disappointing to loose functionality for clip playback and download. Maybe they will fix it, but it does not seem like they are too motivated since the offending cameras are not Vistacam’s.

Exactly my issue. Same screen.

I wonder if downgrading firmware on vera will resolve?

Edit…downgrading to previous firmware. I will let you know how it goes.

Well…that didn’t work. Don’t bother downgrading.

Very frustrating.

Must of been a change at their (Vera’s) cloud storage end if downgrading does not fix it.

For sure. Very frustrating. I think “pictures” still work. I guess I am going to switch over all my recording scenes to pictures for the time being.

It has been 5 days and nothing from a ticket request. I did get a response on their FB website which prompted an email from tech support to enable sharing of my system. Then once again, nothing for days.

sigh…

I did get a response to my ticket, asking for camera information. I’ll report anything new.

VERA

don’t know if this will work for everyone but it should help most hopefully.

I have a vera edge UI7 v1.7.2406
a hikvision 16 channel DVR TVI-8616-4TB
(this method to add cameras to VERA should work with most hikvision DVRs that supports rtsp)
(you must also know your DVR IP address, username and password)

try this link in firefox on a windows PC and it should return an image.
DVR and PC must be on same LAN network.

http://admin:XXXXXX@192.168.1.XXX:9000/PSIA/Streaming/Channels/701/Picture

dvr username = admin
dvr password = XXXXXX
dvr IP address = 192.168.1.XXX
dvr http port = 9000
(make sure port is forwarded to dvr IP in router)
(check in dvr menu for http port. it is the same port as to log in to your dvr from any browser)
change #7 in link to select different cameras 101-201-301exc…

open firefox on a windows PC and it should display the camera image from this link:

http://admin:XXXXXX@192.168.1.XXX:9000/PSIA/Streaming/Channels/701/Picture

change all X’s in link accordingly.
if no image appears try this:
make sure you are logged in as administator and “allow” any blocked connections.
turn off windows firewall.
try a different browser.
remove the “admin:XXXXXX@” from the link and try all that again
remove the “PSIA” in the link and try all that again.

examples to try:
http://admin:XXXXXX@192.168.1.XXX:9000/PSIA/Streaming/Channels/101/Picture
http://admin:XXXXXX@192.168.1.XXX:9000/Streaming/Channels/101/Picture
http://192.168.1.XXX:9000/PSIA/Streaming/Channels/101/Picture
http://192.168.1.XXX:9000/Streaming/Channels/101/Picture

you must be able to return an image from the camera with a “http” link in your windows browser.

try this if all else fails, it may help you get your “http” link.
google, download and run “ONVIF Device Manager” in windows.
enter dvr IP and info in app and refresh, let it sit a few minutes to detect, if no cameras display in list then restart the ONVIF DM app and/or your PC. try app again. refresh list. (once list is populated click the live link on any cam, you will need to change the rtsp:// to http:// and you may need to add the /PSIA/ and or /picture to the displayed rtsp link in the app.

once you have your “http” link try again to view in firefox (start over from beginning of this post if you have to)

ONCE YOU HAVE THE “HTTP” LINK OF THE VIEWABLE IMAGE IN A BROWSER YOU MAY CONTINUE TO ADD YOUR CAMERA IN VERA/DEVICES.

open “VERA IP” address in firefox (192.168.1.XXX)
click Cameras/Add Camera/Security Cameras/IP Camera/next/next/next
wait 6 minutes countdown
go to bottom and click manually install the camera
checkbox any device in list
select camera type = other IP camera
camera URL = (your camera http link) http://admin:XXXXXX@192.168.1.XXX:9000/PSIA/Streaming/Channels/701/Picture
camera IP address = leave blank
camera username = leave blank
camera password = leave blank
go to bottom and click test (image should appear in firefox)
cameras name = any
choose room
next
wait 2 minutes for the network to refresh and new camera will show up in devices.

(if using homewave app for iPhone/ipad, cameras should be available now in the add camera list)

useful VERA links:
(enter the following in any browser on same VERA network:

VERA device list URL:
http://192.168.1.XXX:3480/data_request?id=lu_invoke

VERA scene call URL:
http://192.168.1.XXX:3480/data_request?id=action&serviceId=urn:micasaverde-com:serviceId:HomeAutomationGateway1&action=RunScene&SceneNum=XX

VERA light switch URL:
http://192.168.1.XXX:3480/data_request?id=action&DeviceNum=XX&serviceId=urn:upnp-org:serviceId:SwitchPower1&action=SetTarget&newTargetValue=0

get device # from device list URL.
change “DeviceNum=XX” in switch URL.
change “newTargetValue=X” in switch URL ( 0 = off , 1 = on ).
(can add a bookmark on PC or on iPhone “add to home screen”).

hope this helps some of ya!
it was quite hard for me to find any workable tutorial out there for this, just bits and pieces of info gathered from many different forums and frustrated people…
so this is a compiled cheat sheet of what works for me.

yeaaa boyeee!

@sirelboe. Lots of work there. Thanks for trying. However, the problem is not so much with viewing live video but with playing back recorded video.

The option to view recorded events has been broken by something vera did on their end. I believe this impacted a number of people using IP cameras.

In an act of desperation, having waited 6 days for a response from vera, I purchased the the Advanced Camera Management (ACM) option. My hope was that it would break down the wall and fix the playback recording issue.

It did not.

I noticed after signing up for ACM that I was given the option to select a cloud service for storage of “data.” I selected my appropriate service (google) and tried to record a video.

It did not work AND there is no listed video as being recorded in the playback section. This is different then when using the Vera servers. You would see the video as “recorded” but could not playback that video. Now, there is no record of a recording taking place.

Pictures or snapshots do work and are stored on my google drive folder.

The latest. I have been sending messages via Vera’s facebook page. They are very prompt with a reply and it usually ends up with an email in response to my ticket. Having been a week plus with no result, I inquired as to a possible resolution date? Was it going to be the next firmware release or perhaps something sooner. The latest below:

Brian replied:
Hello Thomas,

Just wanted to let you know that we are still investigation this issue and trying to find a resolution for it.

Once we will have an update on this matter, I will get back to your right away.

Thank you.

Regards,

Today both videos and pictures taken by triggered events are storing and viewable. Obviously, they fixed something on the vera side of the fence. I have tested this with vera’s standard storage and with google cloud storage. (have to purchase the beta acm service to be able to store your video’s on the cloud.)

Anyone else still having issues? I have not received anything from vera on the fix. Just tested it on a whim.

Just tested on my setup. Using Blue Iris for the cameras. Snapshots record and display. Video records, but does not play “No video with supported format and MIME type found”.
When attempting to download, “Error: Storage file error”.
Last update from Vera on the ticket submitted was:

If I can assist you with anything else, please don?t hesitate to ask.
Have a wonderful day!”
Glad it is working for you. No love for me so far on this issue.

I too use Blue Iris and still cannot view any recordings on Vera.

Here is Customer Care’s response to my ticket - looks like a firmware issue:

"Hello Don,

I?ve already addressed this issue to our development team and they will analize it and get back with a fix fir it.

We currently don?t have any ETA for when it?s going to be fixed but it should be fixed in one of the upcoming releases.

Sorry for the inconvenience that this issue might have created."

I am not using Blue Iris if that helps. Pure IP camera…actually it is a video decoder NV412A. Left over from my ADT days. Those are hooked up to analog cameras. The NV412A then connects to the network. It also has a “video out” jack that goes to my DVR.

So basically Vera sees my NV412A as a IP camera. Vera has no direct connection or control of my DVR.

Back in the club. Not working again. Recordings happen randomly. When they do, they can be played back.

In one instance two cameras triggered by a scene to record at the same time produced one video in the “recorded” area of ONE of the cameras. The video was fine for 10 seconds but the next 10 seconds was a scrambled mess showing both camera feeds in the same frame. Very odd.

I switched BACK to vera cloud.

Update.

I have discovered that using the vera servers for storage allows for playback of recorded video. Using google or microsoft allows for ONLY pictures to be stored. For only a brief period, google cloud storage worked for video recording and playback.

Several cameras proved stubborn and refused to store video on vera servers. Looking at the “variables” under settings I noticed these cameras had the “DirectStreamingURL” value of “/img/video.mjpeg” The cameras that recorded reliably on the vera servers had the value “/img/video.mjpeg” only. NO IP ADDRESS. Removing the IP address from the “DirectStreamingURL” resulted in these cameras functioning correctly.

It would be nice to store video on google cloud as the ACM service advertises. At this point, I am just happy to have recording and playback working.

Playback and download began to work again for me today. Yea!

I’ve experienced this on Foscam and Amcrest cameras…from my browser, it says download failed. No ETA, eh…is there ever an ETA?
