Mine are all included in my network, but as I said Im using the Minimote to control individual devices. I first pushed the learn button on the remote, it blinks blue, then in Vera, under z-wave I click “ADD ZWAVE CONTROLLER” which forces a copy from Vera to the minimote. Be sure to hold it VERY CLOSE to vera when you do this.
You’ll see the minimote flash blue and the red light and blue light will turn on and flash rapidly, this is the data being sent to the remote. Vera’s WAN light will flash after its done and then all lights on the minimote will be off.
I then went to each node and did an include on the minimote. Since there are 4 buttons, and no on/off, the button press turns on the device, and again it turns it off.
I tried setting a scene and assigning a number to the MiniMote (assuming the buttons are 1, 2,3, 4) and I could not associate a scene with the buttons on the MiniMote. I’ll have to ask my contact at Aeon labs how this works on the MiniMote. I’ve done scene activation with other remotes from GE/Jasco but this one doesnt seem to want to play nicely here. I’ll try more and let you know…
My HRDS1 works very well and I like its design better than the one from Aeon Labs. Unless there are some technical advantages with Aeon Labs one, I would stay with HRDS1 then…
I like the fact that the AeonLabs D/W Sensor http://www.smarthome-products.com/p-1231-aeon-labs-wireless-doorwindow-sensor.aspx is alot smaller than the Hawkings Sensor. I have 4 setup in my network and they work great. I also have the HRDS1 I use it because of the remote contact sensor - great for the garage doors. I will use the AeonLabs Sensors any place I don’t need a remote sensor because it is only 2/3 the size of the HRDS1
kaldoon: I’m a noob when it comes to security systems and these sensors. Could you say a little more about the differences between the Aeon and the Hawking? It appears one is a “remote contact sensor” and the other is not? What does that mean? I’d like to install a few of these to monitor my gates and skylights. Thanks for your help.
HRDS1 has a nice additional feature - it has an input contacts for a remote wired closure sensor, which can be used instead of the internal magnetic sensor. So, it’s easy to convert existing wired closure sensors to Z-Wave.
"Another not so obvious feature of the Aeon Labs Window / Door Sensor is automatic configuration with all the popular gateways including Mi Casa Verde's Vera and HomeSeer. By simply including the device into a SUC/SIS enabled gateway the sensor is automatically associated with the gateway. This means when the sensor is activated or deactivated the gateway receives a Z-Wave message from the sensor providing its status. Being associated with the gateways also allows the gateway to monitor the battery level of the sensor — another not-so-obvious feature."
Above sounds to me like a PR BS (i.e. I don’t see anything so special)…
why is the hrds1 remote contact any better for garage doors than just using the magnet? i am using an hrds1 for my garage door, but I screwed the magnet onto the door itself, working fine so far… is there an oem closed contact sensor on garage doors that i am not aware of that you can wire to the hrds1 or did you buy something else?

Damnit, this hosed my whole network… it seems the minimote is now my primary controller and I don’t know how to shift the network back to vera… my whole network is going nuts… bah!
The minimote will not only turn your device (or many devices together) on and off, but with dimmable devices, you can set your desired light levels for the “on” button press (the equivalent of a “scene”), and then you can still control brightness up and down by holding the buttons down. I love these things. I have four of them that we use every day. Using minis, combined with “load sensing” devices that allow local “normal” lamp switch operation, I have achieved a pretty high WAF because everything works whichever way you control it.
And I luckily haven’t experienced the problem of any of my minis trying to become “primary”.
