Has anyone heard of a Z Wave enable smoke alarm? Kidde and First Alert have “wireless” units that can speak to each other using some kind of radio frequency…
Hate to bring a thread back from the dead, but…
Has anyone found a Zwave smoke alarm? I’ve searched to the ends of the internet and either don’t know the right keyword to search for or just haven’t found it.
It has been in the plan for Zensys but none yet too be made.
I have seen one on the net.
But not in any shops.
EVSP = Everspring
They produce it OEM only for this moment.

Maybe something for MCV.
Wil need to be ul and FCC certified
Nothing out on FCC site yet - so it could take sometime
After extensive Googling, I gather that “they” have been talking about Z-Wave and Zigbee smoke detectors since early 2006! Who’d-a-thunk utility companies with their Smart Meters (mostly Zigbee in the U.S.) would have beaten consumer-level smoke detector manufacturers to the punch?!
I’d wager these manufacturers are looking to avoid potential pitfalls such as certification, cost, reliability and even lawsuits from within the carefully scrutinized (and litigious!) “home safety” market.
Of course, in the war of mesh network protocols, I cast my vote for “Z-Wave”. Lots of research points to Zigbee having the potential to muck up wireless home networks, whereas Z-Wave sidesteps this issue by utilizing a lower-frequency radio spectrum.
