Z-wave replacement for IRLinc

I am looking at moving to all z-wave, but that means finding another solution to my IRLinc setup. I need something to receive IR from a Logitech Harmony and active a scene or control a dimmer. To my knowledge there is no IR to Z-wave bridge. What device can receive IR and then send to Vera or to the z-wave dimmer/switches. Also what is the level of difficulty to get it working?

Thanks,
Roy

Well after reading more threads here, I found the iTach IP2IR unit. This unit does not seem to receive IR though… I have a ceiling mounted projector, so I need something like the RF Harmony remote to control it. There has to be a way to do this…

but why would you want to control Vera using IR? IR is often unreliable, one-way, and requires line-of-sight most of the time. It makes more sense to do it the other way around, use Vera (and relevant iOS/Android apps and remotes) for HA and IR devices. I’m sure if you search the forum you’d find some solutions for Vera-to-RF, or try using one of the Harmony remotes that support z-wave as well.

just my .02 …

Well I am now going to pursue getting one of the Pulse-Eight HDMI-CEC adapters for my media center to turn everything on. Then I can use the RF Harmony remote to control the Media Center. Then get one of the Vizia scene controllers with IR to control the lights/fan/etc. over Z-Wave.

I can’t get away from a normal remote… it just would not be accepted.

I would totally support any solution allowing to control Vera from IR

The reason is simple - my Vera sits in basement “network closet”. There’s no way to pass USB UIRT from there anyways.
Even with options of iTach, I find Vera’s way to control IR awkward and unintuitive comparing to Harmony.
So, I end up using Harmony AND z-wave controller.

It seems to me rather natural to have a simple interface that would just trigger a scene on Vera based on the IR scene I turn on my Harmony.

I’m also looking for a solution to control my vera 3 through my logitech harmony 1100 remote .
if all else fails by infra red.

someone says will develop a integration tool for Redeye from ThinkFlood.
I have one and is a great device…only do not integrate with vera yet.

I believe this was Chixxi who said this. However Chixxi has not been very active on the forums lately and not sure if he/she will continue with the path of developing a plugin for the RedEye.

it’s a pity, it could be a good device to work with vera.

Hi, you might try some of the Leviton combination controllers on this product page:

A few of them support exactly what you are looking for - receiving IR and activating scenes. I have a few of them, but have not used the IR function – just know that they do support it.

This is not necessarily a terrific option, but you can use Lirc to get IR events in EventGhost and then trigger actions on the Vera from EventGhost. This involves have a running Windows machine (for EventGhost, Lirc does not have to be running on the Windows machine).

I do this and it works pretty well.

Any word on this front? I have this insatiable desire to shut off my living room lights from my Harmony One. I envision having the lights shut off as I start my Watch Movie activity. Or dim partially, and shut off completely 5 minutes in.

Same here. I have not found a way to do this… I can’t believe this would be so hard…

Damn dude . . . I thought I had an answer here :-\

I had thought about getting a IR-Linc (Insteon) and going down that road. But I’ve read a bit on here and people don’t have good luck with it with their Veras.

I’d ditch z-wave and go with Insteon. I use the IR-linc with my Harmony remote to control lights when in sitting in front of the TV. Works perfectly. Plus with Insteon you have far more options and better quality products than with z-wave.

;D I figured out a solution you may be interested in! ;D

But instead of having IR control Z-Wave, I figured out how to make Z-Wave control IR. It’s actually made me depend on my Harmony remote less which I think is cool.

I’ve written this guide that should help you set this up yourself…

Let me know if you have any questions.

ALSO…

I figured out how to have IR signals (from a Harmony Remote or an Xbox One) trigger Z-Wave scenes! ;D

It involves using EventGhost and a simple script file. I’ve written a step-by-step guide on how to do this yourself. Check it out…
