Z-Wave alternative to Honeywell RF system

I have two thermostat at home and want to replace them with Z-Wave based thermostats.
One of them is wall mounted, connects to the usual HVAC wires and I have already made a choice for its replacement.

The other one however is a Honeywell Chronotherm IV Plus used in the master bedroom. It is portable and is RF-based, communicating with a Honeywell RF Zone PANEL W8665E1000.
That receiver is installed in the basement and I’d rather not install wires between the basement and the bedroom.

Is there a Z-Wave or wifi based system that would allow me to easily replace this system?

That’s the best part of Z-wave, its wireless. I know I know, that’s not what your talking about. But why not mount the thermostat in the basement?

With Z-wave you can set change or adjust the thermostat from anywhere with your phone Ipad, tablet, computer. Plus with home automation the goal is to automate it not have to keep changing it.

Anyways to answer your question I have not seen a full wireless thermostat of any kind with Z-wave. They have battery ones, which don’t work so well but they still need the wires for the a/c hooked up to them.

If you must have a switch in the bedroom consider a Ipod touch or a small android tablet along with a wall mount. Now you have a wireless thermostat mounted on the wall along with the fact it can control the rest of your z-wave network too.

I have bought 7 Trane Thermostats that cost 90.00 each from here. (these have remote temp sensor capability)

Andriod tablets cost 50.00 and up

And there are many types of wall mounts from 10.00-50.00 depending on if its device specific or just a generic holder.

I understand exactly what you mean when you say one can change the thermostat from anywhere. I have actually no issue with that.
So the Trane Thermostat you got can effectively measure only the temperature of the remote sensor and it is Z-Wave based?
Is the remote sensor a Z-Wave sensor, or a Trane product talking directly to the thermostat?

What other Z-Wave based thermostat allow to measure the temperature from a remote sensor and ignore their own sensor?

The TZEMT500 not “TZEMT400” allow for 2 extra wired sensors (not wireless sensors). The display will only show one temp (you cannot show both). You choose to use the external sensor, or internal, or adv. the 2 or 3 together. Sensors cost around 5.00 each but are wired (this might not be a good thing for you as you stated before). Each use 2 very small wires per remote sensor.

Both of the TRANE’s above are Z-wave and easily used in any VERA. I have 2 vera’s with 7 of these TZEMT500’s.
