I’m new to this home automation stuff, and have just got started with two Yale real Living keyless Z-Wave locks. The problem I’m having is that neither of the locks seem to be sending any alerts to the Vera3 system they are paired with.
I can use the Vera3 to lock and unlock the door locks. I can use an Android app on my phone to do the same thing, so I know the Vera3 and the locks are communicating.
I can send a test notification from the Vera3, and I receive both a text message and an email.
But, even though I have notifications turned on for the locks (Door unlocked, door locked, Bad PIN entered, PIN entered, Low Battery, PIN programmed from the lock etc), NONE of these notifications are ever sent to me. If I look at the Vera3 notifications screen, I don’t see any entries showing that the lock was ever unlocked, or a PIN used, or a bad PIN entered etc. It seems as if the locks are simply not sending any alerts to the Vera3.
It seems unlikely that both locks could be defective, so something must be mis-configured somewhere.
I’ve just installed the Vera Alerts plugin, and it too successfully sends me alerts during tests, but it too does nothing when the door locks are activated in a way that should send a notification.
The Vera3 unit is approximately 8 feet in direct line of sight from both of the locks.
What should I check? Any ideas what’s going on here?
Did the locks fully configure? My yale was doing the same thing. There was a blue button one the device and it said “Setting special association”. It also was not showing lock/unlock status properly. I had to move my vera closer to the lock and then “Configure node right now”. This eventually worked and I now have lock status and was able to get text/email when the lock is used.
Micasaverde technical support replied to my request yesterday, and told me to upgrade to a beta version of the vera3 firmware. They said that the people who make the Yale lock firmware frequently change the code in the locks, so basically, the firmware in the Vera3 is playing catch-up. The vera3 beta firmware fixed the problem for me, though it does appear to be missing some features (like, no notification after entering a bad PIN from the lock’s front panel), which technical support warned might be the case.
Now, I get an email when the lock is opened (by PIN or manually), an text message, and a “Vera Alerts” alert! Too many alerts!! I need to find a way to get ONLY the Vera Alerts notification. I turned off the email alert, which worked, and then tried turning off the SMS alert. After turning of SMS alerts, I’d get no notifications from Vera Alerts at all. It seems the two are linked, somehow.
I just tried turning off SMS notifications (in addition to email notifications) again, and now it works! I get VeraAlert notifications whenever the door is unlocked/locked and when specific PINs are used. Happy again!
