yale lock and vera

im looking at purchasing this yale lock and and a vera but have a couple questions.
http://shop.getvera.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=YAL-YRL220ZWTSL

  1. This lock would be for the backdoor of my small office (does not have a deadbolt). I want to be able to program codes from my computer and be able to track when people are coming into the office from a web interface. Is this possible? basically want to be able to pull up a list that shows what users code was entered and the date/time.

  2. I also have a nest thermostat and want to add a zwave switch to be able to setup certain times of day for exterior lights to go on/off. So to start will really only have those 3 things on it. Would it be better to get the vera lite or the vera edge? (may add more lighting controls in the future)

If anyone has any recommendations on other locks or have used this yale lock any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks,
Larry

I have been using a similar Yale lock for well over a year. It works flawlessly. The lock I use is: http://shop.getvera.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=YAL-YRLD220ZW

I also have some Kwikset ones I picked up on ebay a while back for about $89 each (crazy price) with Z-wave included (http://shop.getvera.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=KS-99100-000). They work well, but require a few more tricks to get working (especially after changing batteries).

I have switched all my door locks to lithium batteries as they last a really long time.

If you can afford the Yale locks, I think they are far superior to most others.

I use the kwikset 910’s you posted, can buy them right now for 60.00 locally. I have 4 of them currently. I use only lithium batteries and never have any issues when changing batteries.

They are not the strongest locks due to the kwikset easy key setup being a weak link. That being said some like how easy it is to rekey. 2 secs with the tool they give and your done.

Some others don’t like how many numbers are on the key pad. They feel more secure with more.

If money was no object I would probley go for the Schlage touch screen now.

One more vote for the Yale locks. Mine has been running very reliably.

I love the yale locks, you can see the review on my site at http://www.myzwave.net
We have some youtube videos as well and I know that MCV also did a youtube video on the install on a Yale lock

One thing I can say is their customer service is amazing. One of my touchscreens died and they sent me a replacement lock immediately. I highly urge you to try it with Vera, makes code management a breeze!

Larry, here are the links to the two videos I produced on installing and using locks. It covers creating codes and viewing the logs.

I have a Schlage on my front door because I could re-key it to match the rest of my house. As you will see in the video I have a Yale YRD220 touchscreen deadbolt on my back door. Very easy to install, good instruction manual (READ IT FIRST), they use very heavy rubber escutcheons to keep the water out; I am very pleased with it.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I ended up getting the yale touchscreen lever lock and a veraedge for my office. It works well and am very happy with it. I liked it so much i ended up buying a vera edge and yale touchscreen deadbolt for my house. So far everything is working well and am pleased with the lock.

Thanks again,
Larry
