Wiring Issue - should be correct but is not?

Hi All,

I am hoping for a little advice if possible on my heating set up wiring wise?

I have a "Lifestyle LP522 Electronic Programmer? as here

http://www.draytoncontrols.co.uk/homeownerzone/products/timecontrol/LP522programmer/

I also have the thermostat Honeywell T6360B as here:

http://www.honeywelluk.com/products/Temperature-Controls/Temperature-OnOff-Control/T6360-Room-Thermostat/

I have swapped both for:

SSR302

http://www.vesternet.com/z-wave-horstmann-z-wave-controlled-boiler-receiver-two-channels

and:

SRT321

http://www.vesternet.com/z-wave-horstmann-wall-thermostat-with-lcd-display

The SSR302 was a strait swap out which was great (no re wiring needed). Hot water and heating control both work as on/off so all great. I did not want to un-wire the thermostat so just moved it as wired. If turned up to full it should be ?on? so as such the same as just breeching the wires as per instructions on Vesternet. However if I joint the three wires together and then turn the heating on ? the fuse trips? Adversely if I leave it all wired the thermostat (old original one) will still turn on and off the heating if I turn it up and down and also thus then effects the manual operation of on and off via the z wave unit?

So? I want to remove / stop the (old non z wave) thermostat having an effect on the system but not sure how?
Any guidance or direction appreciated.

Try This… (Old stat should be removed and all power should be shut down)

Old Therm — New Therm

1 to L
2 to N
Jump L to 2 (On the New)
3 to 4
Ground on old stat can be wire nutted off. (Does look like it’s needed for the new)

Hope this helps

Hi ServiceXP,

Thank you for your reply. My apologies for the long delay - sadly i have not been ab;le to get to this untill now but now will be with it long term and still keen to sort.

I was a little confused with you reply as the thermostat i an replacing will be wireless and not connected via wires to the system. so as such i just need to terminate the thermostat.

I have been following the guide here:

http://www.vesternet.com/resources/application-notes/apnt-39#.VDEXrIFdWSp

i have done some more investigation and have attached a word document that includes pictures and labelling of what is what.

hope someone with more electrical know how than me can help.

many thanks in advance.

Ok so you just want to remove the stat and you have already installed the controller that will take the place of this wall thermostat…

It looks like all you need to do is wire nut 1 and 3 together (Looking at the old thermostat) and all the others just terminate with wire nuts (no connections).

Hi @ServiceXP,

Thank you for you time.

Yes - I wish to remove the thermostat Honeywell T6360B. I have replaced the Lifestyle LP522 Electronic Programmer with the SSR302 and hot water is working great but Heating is not.

I have also installed in place of the Honeywell T6360B a SRT321 but this is battery operated and only provides vera with temperature updates and set points for my automation.

I have tried as you suggest and also other options - findings as below:

Blue (2) and brown (1) = on

blue (2) and black (3) = blows fuse

black (3) and brown (1) = nothing

I too thought 3+1 was the answer but no joy sadly. I have tried both remotely turning on and off the SSR302 and also manually in this configuration and although the unit makes and audible click as if it is turning on and off and also indicates correctly with a green light and red light respectively - sadly the boiler does not fire up?

I was originally instructed that if i left all wired as normal (as per pictures above on thermostat) that I could just turn the thermostat up to maximum and then operate control via the SSR302. Sadly this was not the case for me - I understood the theory but in practice the boiler just turned on and would not be operated via the SSR302.

Then I believe you have something wired wrong on the other end.

Hi @serviceXP

Thank you again.

Okay i would agree with you. I have raised a support ticket with the company i bought it form and given them this forum link - i hope they may be able to offer some insight - they do have excellent support so i am confident they may be able to offer some ideas - I know it will work but juts need to work out what has been wired differently in the main box? as you saw it has many more wires than i expected and than those reference in guides.

I will post again with any further progress.

Just an update - this is proving a little tricky for some reason - all started out well and i am sure will end well but certainly an odd one so far.

Attached to this post is my attempt at a wiring diagram that hopefully offers clearer direction as to the set up of my kit. I am aware i made some errors on the previous doc attached.

I too have been liaising with support and Martyn is proving very helpful (thank you!) so with his support, my determination, and forum help - I may get this resolved once and for all.

as extra notes:

For confirmation I also currently know:
? The set up as described is exactly as it was previously just with the SSR302 in place of the original ? no wiring changed.
? The SRT321 is installed and sends temperature commands to Vera for me to adjust temperature states.
? If I turn the thermostat (original) that is still also in situ ? all the way up it triggers the heating to turn on. If I turn it below the current temperature it turns the heating off.
? Turning the Thermostat (original) all the way up (and thus turning the hearing on) still offers me no control on the SSR302 both manually or via Vera.
? When looking to remove the Thermostats (original) the below combinations have the below results:
o blue and brown wires joined = heating on
o blue and black wires joined = blows fuse
o black and brown wires joined = nothing happens (no heating on or ability to operate via SSR302)

Fixed! Turned out to be a faulty thermostat. Rma and new one installed and bingo. Thanks to all who helped.
