Window coverings new "REVERSE" function

Can anyone clue me in on how this new feature works? The explaination in the bug tracker is sorely lacking in detail and I can find no other references to this new feature

I imagine it is a binary variable under advanced settings, or it may be a variable that needs to be added using New Variale at the bottom. I still need to upgrade to the latest firmware so I can’t check it until I do.

In the meantime you can always use the file I uploaded here to reverse the buttons:

Hopefully mcvflorin can chime in as he should have info on it. He is back from vacation.

Can anyone provide some some clarification on this issue? Mcflorin?

Shady, thank you so much for providing the .json file to correct the up/down buttons for the ZRTSI interface to Z-Wave. It works great from Safari on my iPad and iPhone. Unfortunately, iVera, the iPhone APP only shows “open” and “close” instead of “up” and “down” and those functions don’t work from the iVera APP.

I’ve never messed around with .json files before, but in looking at the code, it appears there are two control groups. in Group 1 there are up, down and stop buttons. In Group 2 there is a slider and open and close buttons.

Have you modified D_WindowCovering1.json to delete the slider and make the “close” and “open” buttons call the same functions as “Up” and “Down”?

If you’ve done that and been successful that would be nice to have. If you tried and were unsuccessful that would be nice to know before attempting this myself.

If you haven’t had the time to experiment, maybe I can do that.

If UP and OPEN are set up the same and DOWN and CLOSE are set up the same, then maybe iVera would also work with the Somfy Z-Wave interface.

Best regards and thanks for what you’ve done,

Paul

Still no clear instructions for this new “feature”?

Thanks Paul, I am glad someone actually used it. I’ll look into the adjustments you mentioned, unless you were able to do it through experimenting.

Hi Shady,
I am working through the JSON replacement and had the same question as Paul did back when he posted here about iVera only displaying Open, Close, and the slider bar. In iVera, it seems that only the commands in Control Group 2 (Open, Close, Slider) are displayed. It would be nice to instead only have Control Group 1 commands (Up, Stop, Down)

It seems to me the that Control Group 2 is entirely irrelevant for these types of blinds since Open, Close, and the Slider don’t provide any real function. Is there a way to remove them from the config of the WindowCovering altogether without breaking anything so that they don’t show up in UI5 or iVera?

I’m not sure if you’ve had time to play with this but if you have I’d love to hear about it. Thx.

what curtain are you using ?

Hi Piwtorak,
I’m using Hunter Douglass blinds retrofitted with Somfy motors. I have ZRTSI setup to communicate with the motors. Because there is no 2-way comm with Somfy motors, the Slider isn’t very useful, but it also seems that Open/Close don’t do what you’d expect either…

I’ve tweaked the JSON to remove the Control Group 2 controls (Open, Close, Slider) and that removed them from UI5, but it would seem that iVera has the controls hardcoded (or controlled through some other config) because it still only displays Control Group 2 controls (Open, Close, Slider).

I guess at this point I’m wondering if 1) there is a different way to configure iVera? If not, then 2) is there a different device config that I can tweak my Window Coverings to mimic that will put the right controls on iVera? If not, then 3) is there a different iOS app people would suggest I use…

Thanks!

I played with the iVera controls for the blinds a little bit more and have some new ideas on the issues there. It would seem that there are 2 core problems.

  1. Open / Close are flipped. I previously thought they didnt work but they do seem to. They’re just backward. As it seems is the case with most ZRTSI setups (from what I can tell from posts), Open moves the blinds down and Close moves the blinds up which is opposite what they should be.

  2. Somfy motors and those configured with ZRTSI don’t have 2-way comm and therefore the motors never update the slider with their status. This causes problems with iVera because the UI tries to do a bunch of things with the buttons based on their status so things can get easily confused.

WE manufacture native Z-Wave shade motors and drapery motors, fully bi-directional, positioning and reporting.

Our motors are fully controllable from the slider on the Vera dashboard.
The slider works in 10% increments.
When using the stop function, the motor will report its position within 1%.
The motor works like a dimmer where 0% is off/close and 100% is on/open

It is true however that the open/close and up/down are reversed so at this point it looks like you have to pick which one you want to use. . Keep bugging Mios so they fix the display and match UP/OPEN and DOWN/CLOSE

how can I have a budget from you ?

Hi Sylvester, did you get your display? how is it working for you?

Hi,

I am facing the same issue i.e. OPEN and CLOSE are reversed.

Current Behavior :
UP/CLOSE Button ==> Moves the Blind Up and changes the status in iPhone SQ Remote to “Closed” - Incorrect
Down/OPEN Button ==> Moves the Blind Down and changes the status in iPhone SQ Remote to “Open” - Incorrect
Pressing the ‘Windows Control’ toggle button in iPhone SQ Remote == > Toggle-to-Open moves the blind Down and Toggle-to-Closed moves the blind Up - Incorrect

This is highly confusing. The desired behavior is reverse of OPEN/CLOSE buttons (no change to Up/Down).
Expected Behavior :

  • UP/OPEN Button ==> Should Move the Blind Up and change the status in iPhone SQ Remote to “Open
  • Down/CLOSE Button ==> Should Move the Blind Down and change the status in iPhone SQ Remote to "Closed"
-Pressing the ‘Windows Control’ toggle button in iPhone SQ Remote == >Toggle-to-Open should moves the blind UP and Toggle-to-Closed should move the blind DOWN

I tried to use the jason file provided and reverse the Open/Close but could not achieve the above behavior ( i could only reverse the Up/Down). I have also raised a ticket but response is very slow so far.

Is the variable “ReverseOnOff”? I am on 1.5.459. I also tried to use the variable “ReverseOnOff” ( set it to 1), but i did not notice any changes.

Anyone faced this issue and have a solution to the same ? I can change/test/experiment with JASON/XML files if you can help me with what needs to be changed. I have done some tinkering but not getting the desired result (as per expected behavior mentioned above).

I have now created a new thread http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,14745.0.html , for the above issue.

Motor controllers belong to the dimmer class.
ON / DIM UP is UP /OPEN
OFF / DIM DOWN is DOWN /CLOSE

The UP and OPEN commands have to be the same, (as well as CLOSE and DOWN) any fix will throw something else out of sync.
MIOS has to fix this.
Keep bugging them
