So this is a wierd one. I have a GE Appliance Module in my barn, on the far end of my z-wave network. The device shows as an appliance module, but what’s wierd is it TURNS ON fine when I click the ON button in Vera under that device. I see the light click on almost instantly. YET, when I attempt to turn if OFF, it won’t turn OFF!?
Whats the difference in an ON/OFF command with regards to distance etc? Is there a difference? How can the light module be so responsive when I click ON, yet when I try OFF, no go.
It has been giving me polling errors saying “Failed at: Getting the version” but like I said, I click ON on vera and bang, it turns right on. Off just aint happening. I also tried to repair the network and update neighbors, but no go on the OFF command…baffled!!!
Maybe the amount of data that has to be transmitted for “off” is more than “on” and if the node is a little bit far away then perhaps “off” gets more transmission errors???
The byte sequence is very similar to the byte sequence needed for switching on or off a device with one exception . Byte 9 is no longer restricted to the values 0 and 255. These are the allowed values
•0×00 – Switch off
•0xFF – Switch on (the level vil be restored to the level before the dimmer was switched off)
•0xXX – Dimming (possible values: 0×00- 0×63)
My guess is RF interference from the powered light. If the unit was near the end of the Z-Wave transmission range, the increased RF interference even if slight from the light is probably interfering with the signal. I’d try to put another device to act as a repeater between the two if you can and see if that helps, or test by bringing the controlled device closer to your controller.
thanks, I’ll give that a shot by removing the light from it or by taking a long extention cord and moving the light away from the module to see if that solves it. Thanks again!
