Why can't I send private messages?

This is very restrictive that not only can I not send private messages, but I can’t even respond to PMs that are sent to me.
What’s the deal?

You need 25 posts to be able to send PMs. This was done to prevent spam.

Yup, unfortunately that level of control is not offered by the forum software.
