I’m new to home automation and wondering which I should get?
Vera3 or Lite?
or wait for the new VeraPlus or VeraPro to be available? I’m not in a big rush but would be fun to get started.
I already have a Wireless Router (Cisco E1500, not greatest wifi signal though for upstairs of house, prob have to get a better router if I went with the Lite)
Will need vera for-
Z-Wave Trane Thermostat (already have model TZEMT043AB32)
5 or 6 Z-Wave Plug-in Modules
Z-wave Door Front Lock
eventually like to add 1 or 2 cameras
I am very partial to the VeraLite. The Lite removes the wireless/routing features from the Vera3 which I found cumbersome. And, coupling the Lite with a solid router you not get the best of both worlds but the price is comparable.
By the way, I am really stoked about the VeraPro which just adds wifi to the VeraLite. Not sure when that will be available.

From what I have read the Plus adds wifi without the router…the Pro has a faster chip and more RAM.
MiCasVerde needs to give some information on the rumors of the VeraPro and VeraPlus, what are the chances it is true and what are the products, what is the time frame even it is NOT set in concrete, it is causing me to hold off on a large investment in the Vera3 and equipment. i don’t want to invest this amount and find out if I would have waited 3-5 months I could have had new features I wanted or needed!! ???
This will always be the case for:
Electronics
Investing
Fast Cars …
I will let you fill in the rest …
Buy what you need when you need it … if you down’t need it now or feel you can afford to wait than sit on the sidelines … It could be a long wait before the final best thing comes along.
If you have a look at the link contained here, you see the basic details on the VeraPro and VeraPlus. If if after more information, it may be best to email MCV directly.
thanks Brientim,
i did not see the information you posted, had I seen it I would not have had to ask the question. it helped me understand the time frame for the new products and what was changing.

Thanks for all the feedback.
What exactly is the benefit of adding wifi to the VeraPro? I thought the veralite has wifi, maybe just not wifi access point?
Would that just mean I wouldn’t need my wireless router which I only use for wifi (iphone and Kindle)?
Sorry still learning.
@Ihbrock, your welcome. Reading that you may come to your own conclusion that the next real upgrade would only be if/when the VeraPro is delivered to market which by the timeframe indicated will be about a year away.
@5brent5, your correct in your statement. I think the author was re-enforcing the point that the change to the loss of the router ports which current exist on the Vera 3.
A little correction. I am stoked about the VeraPlus. Anyways, no matter what they call it, I really, really like the idea of having a VeraLite with wi-fi capabilities.
Let the wireless people worry about providing wi-fi coverage - whether through wireless routers, extenders, access points, hot spots, whatever - then let Vera just connect to that available wireless network and thereafter concentrate on it’s Z-Wave chores. If this works well, we will have a nice, pretty, small box that can be easily placed in an optimum central location. That would be a game-changer.
I personally don’t think they really need to be investing in WiFi, as everyone’s already got routers of various makes. It would of course give people more options for entry level folks looking to make a simple system. Still, many of the more serious home automation geeks using this system have it backed up with a UPS and tied in with all sorts of other junk in the utility room. It’s sad that the Vera3’s router functions were (essentially) disabled. Had they put the effort into this function, or a plugin maker have provided a decent interface to the OpenWRT underpinnings, I’d posit that this could have been a serious contender against other router companies.
I’d love to see the faster CPU and more memory. We could then do some nice stuff indeed!
What really gets me is there’s talk of a GPRS unit built into the VeraPro? Seriously? I wonder how they are going to pull that one off. Very cool, but I wonder what they are going for. I guess if this is legit, it means they are taking their server side very seriously, and those forwarding servers are getting a major upgrade…
The Vera Pro isn’t useful. What would I do with it that my Vera 3 doesn’t do?
Unless they (MCV) give a LOT more functionality to Vera I honestly see no need. It doesn’t take the specs they mention to remotely turn lights on and off. Hell. Vera 2 can do all that MCV can offer just fine.
From Tech Support: was forwarded your information regarding your interest in upgrading your Vera unit. We did announce at CES that we do plan to launch a multi-radio controller. This is expected sometime in the August/September timeframe

Right… Please explore the forums in-depth here. MCV has never hit a goal date in their history. Don’t expect to see a unit until 2016 at the earliest.
VeraEdge and UI7 is further proof… they missed their own published goal dates several times, and when they finally released them there were several OBVIOUS bugs, such as non-functional USB ports.

I know and agree. I am posting because they do not learn from their past mistakes and send customers emails like the one I received.
