Which Instant Status Light Switches?

For an instant status on/off on a vera3 what are the thoughts on this?

I need 2 slaves for this, would this work:

And if I’m looking for an instant status on/off for dimming:

Any other options?

The Leviton VRS15-1LZ On/Off switch is a good switch that does provide the Instant Status feature.

Yes, you can use up to 5 Leviton VP0SR-1LZ remote switches with the VRS15-1LZ.

The Leviton VRI06-1LZ 600W Incandescent Scene Capable Dimmer does provide Instant Status.

Monster sells rebranded Leviton switches. Other switches supporting Instant Status include:
Cooper RF9501 On/Off switches with RF9517 remote switches,
Cooper RF9534 dimmers with RF9542 remotes,
and Aeon Labs Micro switches and Micro Illuminator dimmers.

It looks like Leviton is the way to go, especially given that their slave switches are so much cheaper.
VP0SR-1LZ should work as slaves with the Leviton dimmer as well?

I have some Hue bulbs I’m using in various spots and want to trigger their presets based upon hitting the switch. I’m wondering if I have a trigger that sets the bulbs at a calm blue level, if I can control the hues with the dimmer on the Leviton? So, if I keep pressing up, it gets brighter and brighter until finally it hits 100% and I trigger the lights to be their default whiteish color?

I do not think they recommend a dimmer to be used in series with the Hue Lamps …
The hue lamps have dimming capability built in (via setting the RGB Levels).

If you want to react to the Dimmer setting with some automation logic … and track it and set the Hue Lamp values in parallel … then that can be done.

Because of the nature of the current bridges (The fact they do not know what the current state of the Bulbs are) … there are a lot of boundary conditions in getting this to work reliably.

The current bridge for the Philips Hue lights does report their light level, and the Hue plugin picks up this value. Try the following:

  • Turn a Hue bulb on, then off, from the Vera UI. Note the slider is at 0%
  • Remove the power from the bulb, then reapply power. The bulb jumps to its default 100% white level.
  • In a minute or so, you’ll see the slider for this lamp go to 100% as well
    It’s not instant though…

So I finally got my leviton light switches installed and I set up a scene based upon my light switch being turned on. I toggle the power on the switch and the scene doesn’t run.
If I leave the lights on and invoke the scene through Vera, the Hue changes color as I expected.
Any idea as to what’s going on?

One thing I did notice is that while the Leviton switches instantly shut off the lights when I hit the physical switch, when I turn them on, it takes a second for the lights to power on – is this normal? Perhaps I need a delay on the scene but for the life of me I can’t figure out how to get a delay before the scene actions…

Are you attempting to dim the Philips hue bulbs? As mentioned earlier, you shouldn’t do that.

I don't know about the Hue but it takes a second or so after power-on before a MiLight lamp will accept commands. I would expect this with any wireless-controlled LED lamp.

When creating or editing your scene, click the drop-down to the right of the scene name and select Manage Delays.
Enter 2 in the Add box and click Seconds then Close. Now you can select the 2 seconds delay instead of Immediate in the drop-down and define your required actions.

I finally have it working reliably with the delay mentioned above
I switched out my dimmer’s to on/off instant status – am I not to do that with the new instant status on/off switches?

I don’t have any of the hue bulbs but here’s a thought , why not keep the hue bulb power all the time by hooking the load wire directly to the line wire in the switch box, leave the switch powered as is then set up scenes to turn on and off. Maybe this would prevent having the on delay because the hue bulbs wouldn’t have to boot up first.

I’m a n00b and I need some clarity. Can someone describe the functionality of the master and remote switches? Can I control multiple devices with a master switch and remote switches? So say I had 3 lights in a box. Could I buy 1 master switch and 2 remote switches and have them all work through Z-Wave? It doesn’t feel right, hence my need to ask.

You need a zwave switch for each light you want to control. The Master / Slave is used for 3-way or 4-way setups. E.g You have multiple switches that control a light.

I new it sounded too good to be true. Thanks for clearing it up for me.
