Which Deadbolt should I choose?

I’ve looked through a lot of threads with lots of information, but I’m still not sure what to choose. I’m new to vera, but learning :). I’ve looking into buying a deadbolt lock in the next couple of days and I’m wondering which one you guys recommend. I want one with a motorized bolt for remote lock/unlock, ability to set temporary/guest pins, and I want the ability to get notifications for basic events (unlocking/locking/PIN used/key used/etc.). I’d love to be able to trigger lights based on the lock and other conditions. Also, I’m running UI6.

Based on research I’m currently looking at the schlage BE469, Yale YRD210-ZW, and the Kwikset 910. Any recommendations between these? Recommend a totally different one? Price is of some concern, but full functionality/compatibility with my veralite UI6 is of most concern.

Any help is appreciated.

Can’t comment on the UI6 compatibility since many of us experienced Vera users won’t go near that firmware.

I believe all three of the locks you mentioned will do what you want.

Comes down to aesthetics and price.

In terms of security/durability, only the Schlage is ANSI Grade 1

Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately I was upgraded to UI6 before I ever even used the vera or registered for these forums. So far UI6 has been okay for me, but I haven’t done a whole lot yet. Not too concerned with Grade 1 vs Grade 2 for where I am putting this lock. Schlage looks fine. Just interested if anyone has any experiences good or bad with any of these locks and UI6.

No experience with UI6, but I have been very impressed with my Yale deadbolt. It paired nicely and the battery life has been impressive.

Thanks. Which model do you have?

I have been using the schlage locks for about five months now. They works great, never lose contact or drop commands from the Vera controller. I can recommend them.

The only problem I ran into is that all Z-wave locks need secure connection (Heads up! a common problem.) to the controller. So, the unsecured units like light switches will not work as a repeaters for the locks. Unless the Vera unit is in the range, you may have to modify the antenna like I did here: Modification to extend wireless range | Sanuja Senanayake

I’ve installed six Schlage BE469 with great results with UI5. Only problem was with one deadbolt during the subzero temperatures. It could have been just an isolated incident, since the locks are rated to -35C. I’ve installed two Kwikset locks and both clients complained “kinda cheap”.

geotech…

I’m having problems integrating the Schlage door lock with a Pro Control remote processor with a Leviton LC0P ViziaRF+3 RS232 serial interface. Pro Control thinks it’s related to a “secure connection”. Since the lock works perfectly with the MCV lite, UI5 browser and the iPhone app. Just NOT with the pro control remote processor. Is there a work around? I don’t believe it’s a range issue… all units within 20 feet radius.
