Hi, just got Home Buddy installed on my Droid X. It works great! Plus, when I dock it in the Motorola station, I can configure the home screen to have Home Buddy shortcuts. So I can just dock my phone, and hit the “all lights off” button. (Or I guess I could configure Tasker too). This is a great software program.
I’d like to purchase a cheap android tablet to act as a remote control for downstairs. Is anyone using an android tablet that works with Home Buddy?

Actually, for $200 it’s the best value tablet there is!
It’s WiFi only (no cell connectivity), no GPS and no Camera, but the rest is just great (especially the screen - 1024x600 at 7"). For in house tablet it’s the best value, once rooted and installed with proper Android (i.e. 2.2, 2.3 or even 3.0).

You might want to take a look at the Nationite Midnite capacitive tablet (a re-branded Witztech A81g).
I had the resistive Midnite tablet without a g-sensor, but my stepson broker the digitizer. I’ve managed to get is working with a mouse,… and have the capacitive version with the g-sensor and full USB host on the way, as a replacement.
I, myself, am a huge fan of Acer’s new Iconia A500 Tab running Android 3.0 Honeycomb. This new tablet is sick and blows the iPad2 away, it is most definitely worth looking into. You can pick one up for about $430 to $450. Whatch’a got Mr. Big Apple? huh? Nothing, that’s what!! BAM!

As far as cheap or less expensive tablets, you could go with either the 7" Coby Kyros MID7015 for about $130 to $140 which is the route that I took or if you’re willing to shell out $250 to $270 you could scoop up the 7" Nook Color. The best bang for the buck that I could find happened to be the Coby Kyros MID7015 which I snatched up brand new from Wal-Mart for $137.

Coby is supposed to be releasing the 10.1" Kyros MID1024 soon, its going to feature a 1024 x 600 WSVGA capactive screen, Samsung S5PV210 1 GHz CPU, 4GB Flash Drive/Expandable up to 32GB, WiFi 802.11 b/g, 2.0 USB, Built-in front-facing camera and microphone, using Android OS 2.2. I think its going to be reasonably priced from $260 to $270. A nice budget tablet.

Once rooted (http://www.androidtablets.net/forum/nook/) it becomes an excellent overall 7" tablet. Got my Nook about a week and a half ago- rooted it the first day… I’m currently running Android 2.3 on my Nook with full Flash 10 support, full market access, Google maps, Dolphin HD browser, Youtube, Homebuddy, The Weather Chanel, etc… Only issue is- once you root it- it becomes so useful that you may not be able to hold on to it! My wife has dibs on it all the time for e-books and magazines, one of my daughters grabs it at night to read before bed when I’m not using it, so it only gets a rest overnight when we’re sleeping. Just had to order another one for my daughter, and I’m going to give mine to my wife for mothers Day cause she likes it soooo much, so I’ll be looking for another tablet again 
I’d vote for the acer or asus tablets.
10 inches if you care for the larger. For me, I’m not sure what size is “right” there’s something to be said for the 7inch also- sometimes i enjoy the 10 inch but think the 7 inch size of my wifes B&W nook hits the spot sometimes after holding the 10 inch for a while.
But to me, more important is the tegra dual 1ghz cores. I’d take the (I believe) 800mhz single core nook for 200 over the 600 dollar wifi xoom with the Tegra dual core. But to me the tipping point is 400 for the tegra2 in the asus and acer. You get honeycomb preinstalled as a bonus and dont need to spend the time to root and download an alternate rom.
I have the verizon xoom myself- wanted something that was go anywhere- there’s nothing like driving the kids to Disney from NJ while they watch amazon streaming movies in the back seat.
But looking to buy a second one so the wife and kids stop nagging me for MY xoom all the time- lol. The asus or acer are my plan at the moment, but who knows what samsung, toshiba, lenovo, sony, etc do before now and when i pull the trigger.
I am considering a wm8650 based A-Pad as a Home Buddy based controller.

At $77 it seems like a good deal, IF it will properly run Home Buddy.

Available in Germany for 69 EUR. Comes with Android 2.1 preinstalled, but can be rooted and upgraded to Android 2.2 - and does run Home Buddy …
@ Drag0n … received my wm8650 and ended up rooting it because supplied software was not up to my standards. Home Buddy worked up till today and I now get the “parsing” error. Will look in to it later today.

How does it fare as a remote control unit?

I’m thinking about putting this on the wall in my theater and using it instead of a scene controller. Any thoughts pro’s con’s?

I am using it at my cabin so family and guests can run scenes or individual devices … I don’t have it wall mounted though. For the price it works great … have the basic apps such as weather, pandora, squeezebox and a simple browser for everyones use.

The price is quite attractive for a tablet + AV remote control; the way I look at it you can load up home buddy on it and you have a Zwave controller + AV remote + tablet, all in one device.
I am using a Viewsonic 10" Gtablet and put in a hacked Android ROM. I then bought a PADTAB wall mount for $19. Couldn’t be happier and the tablet is very easy to remove from the wall. Paid $250 for the tablet including shipping.
