Where do I get help to get Insteon running on Veralite?

I have Veralite and have followed these instructions "[Altsteon] Getting started VeraLite, PLM, windows computer " to get Altsteon up and running. I believe I have followed them correctly, have one device (Insteon Fanlinc) linked with the PLM, but I can’t seem to get anything working. The control on the Vera web control is black. How do I troubleshoot Altsteon more to make sure it is working correctly, and how do I get this Fanlinc working. I have had no problems with Zwave on the Veralite, but can’t seem to get this FanLinc working at all. Once I get it working, I am going to try and Insteon 6-button transmitter next to control the ceiling fan as well. Any ideas on where I can go for help, or what I can do? All assistance is appreciated.

The first thing you need to do is make sure that the altseon daemon is running and communicating with the plm. Once you get that going, run the altsteon_cli and add the fan linc to altsteon by issuing the following in altsteon_cli prompt:

add XX.XX.XX

Where XX.XX.XX is the insteon id of the fan linc. Altsteon should than read the device and discover what type of device it is. I would not worry about the vera portion until you can get altsteon daemon working and communicating with the fan linc. Once that is all set and done, than worry about the UI portion.

Sorry to be such a newbie… but how do I do the steps you say above? Shell commands? Is there a forum article you can refer me to? Thanks for the help… Sorry for the basic alsteon questions…

Ok, I got the altsteon command working, PLM initialized, so now how to do I get the altsteon_cli prompt that you mention? I type that command I WinSCP just locks up?

I have a couple of threads of similar issues. Making a lot of progress. The cli command was actually add_device not add. Also, a move to the PUTTY tool instead of WinSCP made all the difference with respect to seeing more of the commands and responses I was supposed to. Now I need the following assistance:

  • How do I get more detailed command information so I can control devices from the command line interface for altsteon?

  • How do I start getting the Vera UI looking like it can control the FanLinc.

My latest screenshots are attached. All help is appreciated.

Ok, I have made tons of progress. I now have full control over my FanLinc device, light and fan, through the altsteon_cli interface using PUTTY terminal. I can change the speed of the fan, dim the light, and even turned off the annoying red LEDs that were shining brightly at night. Now, I have only one thing left. How do I get the FanLinc device to appear correctly on the ViraLight Micasa UI? I followed the instructions and clearly have altsteon working correctly, but I cannot control the device from the UI. The device appears but with no settings that make sense. Is there anyone on the forum who can help me? I have resolved everything else myself :). Please help :).
