My experience with Monoprice - 4x4 HDMI matrix/switcher
I purchased a total of 3 of these units from Monoprice. 1 was installed about 1,5 yrs ago, while the other 2 have never been out of the box.
April 15th I started having trouble with the one I am using. So I took a new one and hooked it up. The new one would not even light up, DOA. I took out the other new one and tried it. I looked alive at first, but in fact it won’t boot properly, it’s dead as well.
Monoprice in a nutshell after many emails to them, have refused to offer any help or support even if I pay for it! Quote from latest email…
Dear Jack H,
I apologize that we are unable to provide replacements or repairs for your out of warranty items. The reason the invoices were asked for again as due to the links originally provided not allowing us to view your invoice and attempt to assist you further. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide information as to where to take the product for servicing.
I told them I know of the manufacturer of this unit in Shenzhen China. (BTW, I live i China anyway)They will not help me out directly because I bought it through a dealer. I asked for Monoprice to at least provide me a letter requesting them to service it. Monoprice even will not honor this request.
To conclude, Monoprice is a reseller only and does not offer service other than to replace item within a warrenty period. After that your equipment is a paperweight. Not a good policy where usually at lot of $$ wasted from a customer is concerned.
As with most Chinese products we by here in the usa… they are throw away. Under warranty they give you a replacement and throw away the broken one after warranty expire they tell you to throw away and buy a new one.
The spec’s look great … but I had two fail right away … Mono-Price was great about replacing them.
One input would fail … and I would send it back … even though I only needed 3 … at the rate of failure I just sent the last one back and found another solution.

What did you end up doing? JAP looks like some good stuff.
Yeah, have to be careful what you buy, where you buy. I bought a 24 port shielded patch panel for my cabinet from monoprice, so far so good. I don’t think I would buy anything from monoprice that utilizes any type of chips. While some might be worth it in the long run and save you money, the quality control from some of the vendors is poor.
I have a Monoprice 4x4 HDMI matrix splitter with RJ-45 extenders. Like a lot of other folks, mine died after about a year and a half usage. Problem turned out to be the power brick. Sourcing another one with a little more current capability and the switch is back in trouble-free service. Apparently the supplier of original power supplies is not known for making quality products and a lot of them fail just outside the warranty period. Order a new power supply (the plug used is pretty standard) and give it a go, the switch itself is a quality unit.
To buy a high-quality products is very important , and a good after-sales service is also very necessary.
I ever bought hdmi extender from Chinese products ( http://goo.gl/m9IiBt ). I have been using it for more than a year, now it is still working perfectly. And their service attitude is very patient. I will buy some goods from this Chinese store again.
