VPN module

I noticed in the openWRT UI, there’s an option to install the openVPN software.

I’d like to get folks thoughts on two things:

  1. does vera have enough horsepower to enable the VPN for regular “personal” use,
    and

  2. I’m not sure what the interface between findvera.com and the vera box itself is, but could it be made more secure by using a VPN?

Eric

As mentioned in another thread, the connection from Vera box to findvera.com server is SSH, so should be as good as VPN.

I would 2nd denix’s statement.

Thanks, but what about the load on the vera CPU?

ipsec vpn would be great!

best regards,
Hari

I think Vera has enough power for VPN. None of our software uses the CPU much. The only thing that causes Vera to get really bogged down is when it’s acting as the firewall (ie Vera is your router and firewall is not disabled) and you have a lot of network traffic. Then every packet goes through Vera’s CPU and the CPU is maxed once you get about 30-50 mbps sustained. Other than that, the CPU is idle most of the time.

But if you add Lua daemon, the interpreter, and all the scripts it’ll run…
