"Voice Chime"?

Is there anything you can add to the DSC system or thru the Vera that would have a voice at the keypad say which door was just opened? I’ve seen (heard) systems that will say “back. door. open” and “front. door. open.” when the appropriate door is open.

Does anyone have experience with this?

You could do this but it wouldn’t be directly from the keypad. Not totally sure what others have done for similar voice alerts, but others have done in concert with something like a sonos, PC, Squeezebox or one of the control/alerting apps via a scene.

I gather the DSC Escort 5580 module is what you have heard.

You would need PC5580 version 3 and for verbal annunciation also required the PC5936.

It looks as if the PC5936 may be discontinued. Any ideas?

(Just curious, as this may be something I add to my system in the future using something wired into the alarm, and not my Vera).

Interesting as they still market the intercom as current. The old version was the PC5928 which was designed for the 832 whereby the PC5938 is for the 1832/1864… You should be able find one of the original modules on flee bay for pretty cheap. Please note: I have tested this but the first 32 zone were the same for keypads. In addition, you may need to calculate the power and add addition power supply.

For some reason, I was having a hard time finding it. I kept on seeing the old model, the PC5928, all over the place.

I’ve also ran across the PC5950, the two way VOX verification module, but that isn’t the same.

True, this thing does look like it sucks power. I wonder how many people tried hooking it in without planning for the additional power that it would need.
