Vizia RF+ Instant Status?

Does vera support the Leviton Vizia RF+ instant status? I am changing the switches locally and I do not get a status update in vera until the switch is polled the next time. Which can be a couple of minutes… I am guessing by this behavior that vera does not support this feature. Very disappointing… can anyone confirm or deny this?

I have a complete Vizia System as well and would like to know. I’m suspecting it does not and has to rely on polling like most other USB sticks.

I have a Friend at work that develops an iPhone app that interfaces many different programs and protocols and one of them is zwave. He developed a pluggin and app to work with the the controlthink USB stick and since Leviton bought them, they actually use his app to demo it at Leviton. He’s actually got free stuff that he’s passed on to me  since his zwave setup is very basic

FYI: He told me that one of the primary differences between Vizia and cheaper brands like Intermatic is that the Levitons devices actually store and pass device names and scenes within the local device (i.e. switch) rather than relying on a controller (USB stick) to rely on Polling and initiate scenes one device at a time resulting in a “popcorn” effect. That would explain why when I program the scenes with my Vizia controller, all the devices know the scene and can initiate simultaneously in a very dramatic fashion instead of one at a time.

Well, after some experimentation, I can safely say that Vera does support instant status feedback of the vizia line. Implementation may be a bit touchy and finicky, but it does work. I just got my vizia fan controls and relays today. At first, I thought just the fan controls were sending instant status because the relays would not update until polled. I had everything set in vera to “default action” next to the “automatically configure” pulldown. Well, I set all of my devices to “yes” next to “automatically configure” and healed the network. Suddenly all vizia switches started reporting their status. I was hoping the “yes” setting would allow vera to set up the necessary associations between the switches and z-stick. I think this is why it started working. However, I say it may be touchy only because in my mind the “defualt action” should have been to let vera automatically configure… but in this scenario it seems you have to set the pulldown to “yes” to make this work…

Either way, it works and im happy, now if only MCV could get my RCS TZ43 thermostats working…

After triggering some scenes with local switch changes… I can say this works sometimes and it works fairly well when it does work. Something is causing the instant status to not be reported some of the time and vera waits for a poll and the subsequent change in status for the scene to be triggered. Hopefully MCV can make this more robust in future releases.

I’m very curious about the Fan Control, I bought most of my Vizia z wave gear right before the RF+ came out. I’m glad because I like the vertical dimming bar way better. Anyway, how is the fan module working out for you?

Can Vera control Fan speed?
How is your fan setup, do you just set your fan pull chain on high and let the Vizia switch step it down?
Right now all of my fans are on Vizia on/off switches but I was hoping to switch them out for fan control.

As for the instant status, that’s promising to hear. Are you using Vera as the Primary or Secondary controller. I just switched Vera to be the primary, but I wonder if you set a Leviton Controller as the primary if you can assign associations to the Vera.

Right now with my Leviton as the secondary I can program association to my Leviton 4scene controller and set scenes that way.

The fan module is great… they have 3 speeds (Hi,Med, Low) controlled by the dimmer button and the bottom half of the switch controls On/Off. I don’t hear any humming from the fan and when first turned on it will apply more voltage to than fan even in the low speed just to get it going before it throttles down, nice feature. I leave the fan pull chain on high to make sure I get all of the speeds from the switch. In vera the fan controller just shows up as a dimmable light switch and the speeds do work correctly. I hope MCV will update the graphics so that it shows the 3 speeds instead of 0-100% though… 25% is low, 50% is medium, 75% is high, 100% is also high.

I am using vera as the primary controller and I am guessing that vera is setting up the associations for instant status, however it may not be setting them all up correctly as I cannot get them to report 100% of the time.
