Very newby question: Vera act on email or prowl or internet events?

I’m pretty new, but in two weeks I’ve got 90% of my homeseer setup running on Vera including conditional multi-door statuses, virtual device states, Prowl iphone push, etc. I’m very happy.

One thing that homeseer could do, but I didn’t use much, is receiving emails. It will check an email account, and act upon an email based on the content of the email. Not super secure in that anyone could send a control email if they are aware the event/trigger exists, but it works. Is Vera capable of checking email (my guess is no) or prowl incoming events and acting upon them? Are there other alternatives to making Vera see and act upon ‘net events’?

I know this is a vague question, but I don’t really even know what to ask for other than the homeseer/email example.

You could install something like [tt]fetchmail[/tt] on Vera … - but Vera comes with a remote execution feature out of the box:

runs scene #5 on your Vera from where ever you are (try [tt]fwd1[/tt] if [tt]fwd2[/tt] doesn’t work).
