I upgraded to version 541. As far as I recall I selected “keep my settings” when I upgraded, but everything was restored to factory when I got vera up and running again.
Maybe others could look out if their settings was kept intact after the upgrade and let the vera team and other users know? As mentioned, this is properly my own fault.
OK, something was definitely wrong with the upgrade. This is the sequence I followed and what happened. Notice, that prior to the upgrade I configured VERA to run the access point in client mode, i.e. I am connecting to another wireless network and has no wires connected to vera except from power.
Started upgrade and waited 17 minutes to get in contact with vera, but did not get contact
Web instructions said to restart vera if there is no contact, that I did. Still no contact
I suspected settings and plugged vera into to network on the WAN port - Now I could see her
Noticed only device names were there, but no rooms, no location, no scenes, no users were present
I entered created new scenes, users, rooms and added location to the devices
As the every single device was stuck in RED and I was unable to control light in any way, I decided to restart the second time.
Now after second restart all devices worked instantly (all GREEN). On top of that, my IP camera re-appeared and all my old scenes were back again.
Conclusion is that vera needed two restarts to get my settings restored.
The problem was caused by your network connection, you waited 17 minutes because after upgrade your box couldn’t download your configuration files and restore them. After the network worked and you had internet connection on your Vera, you rebooted and at the next reboot it could download your configuration files and restore your settings.
I’ve also experienced a failure to fully restore my setting after moving to 1.0.541.
I upgraded, saw that wifi was enabled when it should be disabled. Rebooted.
Checked again. Same thing. Restored config from saved backup. Now all OK.
Nanckekr as you know wireless is unreliable, so it should be better to be wired to the internet. But you can omit all of this by creating a backup at the upgrade time. If you forgot to create one then you’ll have also some auto backups in your findvera account->Settings if you’ve checked “Auto Backup at findvera.com” form your Vera Unit page->Setup->Advanced->Backup.
So it’s kind of hard to loose all your settings.
I’m sorry, I guess it wasn’t clear. I always have wireless disabled on my vera. The point of my post was that after the upgrade my settings were only partially restored. wireless was on. it should never be on with my settings. once I manually restored from my backup, wireless was turned off as it should be for me.
