VeraMate updates

Version 7.3 (Released 8th Sep)

This release is predominantly a bug/stability fix. Multiple changes to further handle the new MMS authentication servers and improve connection handling. There are also some GoeFence tweaking to attempt to improve accuracy for certain situations only, and double the maximum fence size.

NB: This patch took way longer then expected with Apple taking 14 days to approve (which is almost twice as long as normal). Because of this the patch to fix the issue where some users are being logged out had to be delayed, but, a fix can now be queued with Apple. The problem occurs when the app runs in the background, but since the device is locked, it had been unable to access the encrypted login credentials.

Version 7.4 (Released 25th Sep)

A bit of a nightmare release with Apple being as painful as possible. This fixes one of the hardest bugs I’ve come up against with some users finding they get logged out. This was due to the strong encryption VeraMate uses to protect the login, which turns out is sometimes still encrypted if something needs to run in the background - this made it think it wasn’t valid, and logged out.

[ul][li]Fix issue with some users being logged out when app is run in background.[/li]
[li]GeoFence accuracy and reliability fixes. This may decrease battery life as it now attempts to get a more accurate location before triggering a GeoFence.[/li][/ul]

EDIT: It appears the forced logout is still occurring as 1 bug was missed. A patch is with Apple, and hopefully it won’t be too long for them to release.

Version 7.5 (Released 30th Sep)

Additional emergency fix (which Apple graciously pushed through quickly) for the issue where some users were logged off if the app was closed.

Version 8.0 (Released 25th October, 2014)

Major new functionality: VeraMate 8 brings a huge amount of new changes. This includes IOS8 support to re-enable GeoFencing and Push Notifications.

Voice Control ! It’s here. Currently only supporting English, but speak your command to have VeraMate carry out your wish. ** In appreciation for our users support, Voice Control is currently available for free (limited for Free Edition). Although unlikely, it may require an in-app purchase to use in the future due to server processing costs. **
Update: It would appear very bad timing, but the voice server seems to be having problems. Voice Control will be offline while I reach their support!

iBeacons! Indoor sensing at it’s coolest. Activate your devices as you walk through you home. More support and features will be coming in future versions. This is currently in BETA - we will be collecting feedback to better enhance support for upcoming updates.

Too many fixes/features to list here, but a couple of main ones:

[ul][li]NEW: Passcode lock for local VeraMate access (to stop curious hands)[/li]
[li]NEW: Prevent some switches from appearing in the “active list”[/li]
[li]NEW: Customize background pictures. [/li]
[li]NEW: Ability to change icons/backgrounds straight from a photo[/li]
[li]Fixes for iOS8 support for GeoFencing and Push notifications. ***If it is still not working, please check VeraMate has access from your iPhone location services.[/li][/ul]

Version 8.1 (Released 8th Nov)

[ul][li]BUG: Bring back support for iOS6[/li]
[li]BUG: Revalidate geofence before triggering when possible[/li]
[li]NEW: Active lock smart button[/li]
[li]Misc bug fixes[/li][/ul]

Also, the voice control screen will show a notice if the provider is currently down (as of now, the provider, Dragon/Nuance, is still having problems).

Version 8.2 (Released 15th Nov)

[ul][li]BUG: GeoFence crashing when deleting all fences[/li]
[li]Better WiFi/3G detection with iOS8[/li]
[li]Further GeoFence location verifications. [/li]
[li]Allow VeraMate to be activated by using custom url from 3rd party apps: veramate:// [/li][/ul]

Version 8.3 (Released 25th Nov)

Including a better interface for choosing different icons.

Also:
[ul][li]BUG: Fix problem overriding custom background photo without restarting.[/li]
[li]NEW: Support for thermostat override[/li][/ul]

Version 8.4 (Released 9th Dec)

Voice control has been re-activated. Sorry for the delay in re-activation, the vendor was unable to find the problem on their side.

[ul][li]NEW: Basic pan and tilt functionality for webcams[/li]
[li]NEW: Better support for more temperature sensors[/li]
[li]BUG: GeoFence accuracy enhancements[/li][/ul]

Version 8.5 (Released 31st Dec)

Just in time for a new year present !

A major enhancement has been done to the geofencing to minimise battery usage, and allow better detection. This will decrease the amount of battery usage, but reports have shown it still uses more then I’d want it to. Another patch is about to go to Apple which further decreases battery usage.
** Please note, turning on WiFi will increase accuracy.

Voice commands may have had a low detection rate as the accent was set to be “British”. This will default to “American”, and can be changed in the main settings to either British, Australian, American, or Indian accents.

BUG: A small number of users were affected by invalid login credentials after previous upgrades, which prevented the credentials persisting.

Lastly, Happy New Year!

Version 8.6 (Released 14 Jan, 2015)

[ul][li]NEW: By default some devices now use buttons for control - this can be configured via settings. Allowing better support for X10 devices.[/li]
[li]More geofencing battery optimisations.[/li]
[li]Increase camera refresh rate (configurable in settings).[/li]
[li]Fix some issues when switching between multiple veras.[/li]
[li]Multiple stability enhancements.[/li]

[/ul]

Version 8.7 (Released 24 Jan, 2015)

[ul][li]NEW: Buttons for UI6/7 preset modes. Unfortunately a small bug made it into the final version preventing these buttons working! 8.8 queued already with Apple[/li]
[li]NEW: GeoFencing now has a setting for a battery optimisation level to allow control over how much battery is used in attempting to get an accurate location.[/li]
[li]BUG: Fix issue with user credentials not persisting.[/li]
[li]BUG: Prevent log files growing too large.[/li]
[li]BUG: Prevent logon issue for UI6/7 not recognising a username with mixed case.[/li]
[li]UI6/7 connection issues stability enhancements.[/li]
[li]Further battery optimisations and accuracy enhancements for GeoFencing.[/li][/ul]

I’ll make the exception to update this thread with a bit of an update to mention a delay in the updates planned for February.

For the last 2.5 weeks I’ve been travelling around Russia, Mongolia, and China, which has mostly been out of internet accessibility. The 8.8 release should have been released at the start of this time to fix the main preset-mode button crash, as well as bring in new beta functionality for the today widget.

That didn’t go as planned as Apple rejected the update as they had an issue with one of the icons. This, as well as a backlog of questions I’ll be sorting through, will be the top priority now - we’ll be back on top of things shortly. The current timeline for Apple approvals is currently around 9 days (painfully), meaning barring any more “issues” by Apple, an 8.8 release should be expected sometime around 7th/8th.

Apologies if this has put anyone out.
James

Version 8.8 (Released 27 Feb, 2015)

The VeraMate Today widget is finally here! Please read the FAQ for instructions on setting up, and please note there are limitations with this initial version.

[The release was able to be pushed through sooner then then previous message as I was able to work with Apple to expedite]

Unfortunately iOS versions below iOS8 will not be able to get the latest update due to access to code that is only available in iOS8. This will be temporary, and support for the previous iOS 6 and 7 will continue in a later version.
