Veralite with Global Cache WF2IR

Hi all.

Just got my Vera a few days ago and I think I have all the basics figured out. Now I’m trying to tackle something more interesting: Integrating a IR transmitter (Global Cache WF2IR) with my Vera.

I’ve scoured the forum for information, I’ve read comments that these devices work well together, but I may be missing something here.

My goal is to control my LG Air Conditioner with Vera using scenes and with my phone (android running Home Buddy).

No IR codes can be found for this in the guided setup but I’ve successfully captured them using ilearn.exe. So now I have a remote (under devices, AV Gear, AV devices) that I can use to switch my AC on and off (and it works!).

I’ve also created a new device for it, which shows up next to all my lamp modules (etc) but there is no on/off on the device.

So I’ve got a great proof of concept here - that Vera can operate a GC WF2IR - but I’m missing the pretty controls that show up in Home Buddy or iVera, and I cannot figure out how to issue an on or off command from a scene.

What’s the next step here? I feel like I’m missing a small trivial step but I’ve been stonewalled on this for a day

Thanks,
M

Most likely the developer of the app would need to add support for IR devices. As for scene creation, have you tried creating a new scene and on the advanced tab, choose the device, click add and do you have a drop down box next to the device you added with the choice to turn on or off the device.

Garrett:

Thanks so much! I had previously missed that “Advanced, Device” option. I managed to add multiple scenes, one for each AC function that I want to emulate.

I’m still hoping there’s a way to create a nice UI5 dashboard pin-able object. Sounds like I’d need to explore app development for this: right?

In the spirit of helping others figure out how to do the same, here’s the thread I used to create an IR device that can be used with scenes:

Have you seen this http://www.iruleathome.com/irule-builder/the-software ?
im about to get a global cache to try and mix vera3 with it.

I have the Global Cache WF2IR and like it. the only thing that I didn’t know when buying it was that it requires you to broadcast your network’s SSID (which I don’t like to do). I was able to temporarily broadcast the SSID, make sure it was connected, and then hide my SSID. It worked for a bit but then would loose connection.

As far as iRule, I have played around with it a bit. It’s pretty cool what you can do, but it takes some time and patience to get it setup the way you want. It’s very customizable and works with both iOS and Android. And you can buy the Home Automation plug-in that works with Vera and control certain devices through the universal remote interface.

A friend of mine uses Roomie Remote and really likes it as well. I believe it’s less expensive then iRule, but it only works with iOS devices for now. It too can integrate with Vera and give you added HA control right from your universal remote.
