VeraLite UI7 - devices are no longer connected

Everything was fine for weeks with my VeraLite UI7. This morning, I noticed that one of my outdoor porch lights did not shutoff with the “Sunrise” scene. It showed that it wasn’t connected.

I ran Settings/Z-Wave Settings/Repair

and now I have “4 devices are no longer connected”

What do I do now? What am I supposed to do when I’m away from the house 5,000 miles away for 6 months?

You can try and repair them, you can run a back up.

What devices are these? All on off switches? Are they far from the controller? Are they all on one circuit breaker?

(2) Schlage deadbolts, battery-operated
(2) Motion sensors, battery-operated

I have (1) other Schlage deadbolt and it is not reporting any problems.

These devices were fine until I ran the Repair program. Before I ran the Repair program, only the outdoor porch light switch was not responding. Now I have (4) devices with errors after running Repair.

The (4) devices are actually working and responding, even though UI7 says “no longer connected”.

I’m running Repair again, and now it’s showing 6 devices not responding.

I had issues like this with UI5 too.

Is there a reliability problem with Z-Wave, or is it this VeraLite controller?

This is usually due to them being battery devices and them sleeping during the repair. I avoid repairs due to this problem. If you run a back up you should be good to go. If you run a repair make sure you set the time for battery wakeup longer then what all your devices take to wake up. Door locks for examples some are set to hours to check unless they are locked or unlocked.
Also some of these devices will fix themself as they wake up. So tomorrow you probley wont see 6 device errors anymore.

If it was me I would just run a back tho.

Thanks. I will run a backup as soon as these are all back up online.

I think I found a weak link in the chain. 1 of the 3 Schlage deadbolts has firmware 5.6 (the other 2 have firmware 5.8, which is very stable) and the 5.6 FW deadbolt will sometimes freeze and shut itself off. This device is also the closest device to the VeraLite, only 2 feet away from it. I’m thinking that when the 5.6 FW deadbolt froze and wouldn’t respond to commands from the VeraLite, it maybe had a ripple effect and other devices couldn’t be reached.

I have a Nexia BR100 bridge coming in from eBay so I can upgrade the firmware from 5.6 to 5.8, otherwise I would take the deadbolt out of the network.

As you mentioned, over time (like a day or so) the devices seem to correct themselves, I remember that with UI5. I appreciate your explanation “why” – because of the interval time for battery devices to wake up.

I didn’t know that restoring a backup would correct a device not responding error, but now I know. I will make a backup as soon as I have a system with no errors. Thanks.

Your Vera already does an auto backup. You should check and see and just run that vs. what your doing now. Go to setting then backup and you should see you list of backups.

That worked perfectly. Again, thanks.
