Vera3 initial setup problems (can't add devices - zwave led goes in and out)

I bought the Vera3 last year but did not get a chance to play with it till now. I’m new to HA and zwave. I bought some Aeon DSC06106-ZWUS switches earlier and just recently bought some Monoprice Deadbolt locks and smoke alarms. The controller was initially on UI5 and because I wasn’t having any success adding the deadbolt and switch I decided to connect it to the internet. The controller took a long time to get going and finally when I was able to access it somehow upgraded itself to UI7. Having hearing a lot of horror stories about UI7 I decided trying to downgrade to UI5. That didn’t work so I decided to go ahead and stay with UI7. I was still having a hard time adding the devices and thought maybe it was a UI7 requirement that I register for an online account and add the controller to my online account. I did all that but still can’t add any devices. I tried using the setup wizard but it just times out. I try adding devices by pressing the zwave button on the front. But it doesn’t react (the led stays solid - during the times that it’s lit). The main thing I did notice is that the zwave led does not stay lit continuously. I goes on and off intermittently (seems like it’s off more than on). Do I have a bad unit?? I hope that my warranty is still valid since I got it last year mid-September. Any suggestions?? Thanks!!

Anyone have any idea on this issue??? Please help! I contacted the manufacturer but they are not responding. Should I call instead of using their contact form on their website??

Have you tried excluding the device before including?
Have you tried factory resetting Vera and resetting the Z-Wave chip?

Call Vera support. It is much faster than any other support option.

Thanks Z-Waver! There isn’t anything to exclude since I couldn’t include anything. I had tried resetting but I get a error message saying something about communication. I’ll try and give them a call later. Thanks again!

With Z-Wave devices that’s not necessarily true. If a device has been included into a network, it is paired to that network. Even if that device is then put back in its packaging and sent back to the retailer, or sold on eBay, or even if the manufacturer left it paired after testing it. Consequently it’s sometimes necessary to exclude the device, even if you never included it. Fortunately you can exclude with any controller, not just the controller that the device was paired with.

Anyway… it sometimes happens that some Veras that update themselves from UI5 to UI7 don’t do so cleanly. It was talked about a lot on this forum about a year ago when it was happening to a lot of people. Your symptoms look the same. Best option is to get support to factory reset your Vera, as Z-Waver recommended.
