Vera2 Fails to connect in Wifi Client Mode

I have been trying to connect a new vera2 to a Wifi/Mifi internet router (Wifi Client Mode) but I’m failing to achieve this since almost 10 hours of network troubleshooting.

I have tried every single guide in mios/micasaverde and all related posts in this forum but was not able to get it working.

not sure what I’m missing here, Would be great if anyone can help me find a solution to this problem to start my Z-wave journey.

I have mine in WiFi client mode, with a WPA2 passphrase. It is always possible the Vera has an issue with certain routers/access points. My HP printer refuses to connect to certain wifi routers, but will connect to others.

Are you running UI5 or UI4? If UI5, here is how I did it (and sorry if this is a repeat of what you have already done).

Are you currently connected to eth2 of Vera, with a 192.168.81.2 IP address for your PC?

 1. Connect to Vera via web browser http://192.168.81.1
 2. Go to Setup → Net & WiFi (give the page some time to load)
 3. Choose “Through a wi-fi access point. Vera is a bridge.”
 4. Set WiFi to “On”
 5. Click “Scan for network” (and give it some time)
 6. Type the passphrase for your network, then click “Pick”
 7. Read the dialog box and click “Ok”
 8. Wait a few seconds and then remove the ethernet cables
 9. Vera should reboot, and attach to the WiFi network
 10. Go to http://micasaverde.com/vera2 to find the unit with its new IP address

Even when Vera is in WiFi client mode, you can still connect to eth2 and use static IP to connect and see what’s going on.

Thanks I’ve already done all of the steps you provided in UI4 but it didn’t work.

also when I connect by wire to eth1 with automatic configuration mode (ETH1 Keeps blinking)

When I try to go to Network Advanced configuration:
http://192.168.81.1/cgi-bin/webif/info.sh
(HTTP 500 Internal Server Error)

seems somthing is down ???

When you say you “connect by wire to eth1” what are you connecting it to? A router? Your computer?

You should be able to connect to http://192.168.81.1/cgi-bin/webif/info.sh only when you are connected to eth2, and setup manual IP addresses.

I meant connecting it the the router

MCV support was working on troubleshooting this for many hours today.
After a while we were able to connect to the wifi router using a static IP.
But then when we updated the firmware and upgraded UI4 to UI5 we couldnt connect to the wifi router again with the same trick.

Still trying… will let you know how it goes

Good luck…hang in there!

I know for your circumstances it’s required (with a MiFi), but even in general, it’s MUCH nicer to have Vera setup in WiFi client mode so I can take it wherever I want in the house to include/exclude.

I’m up & running now after I did the following:

 • Flash Firmware
 • Update to latest UI4 firmware (decided not to upgrade to UI5 since everything is working fine now and it is just a testing environment)
 • Connected to a diffrent WIFI router (not MIFI type because it never worked)

Thanks again for the help

Do you just love “standards” and “interoperability?” 8)

;D without hesitation

I also tried yesterday to connect it to an Access Point that is connected to the working wifi router but it didnt work either.

I just spent over two hours on the phone with MCV tech support and they couldn’t get the WIFI bridge mode to work either. FYI, they took control of my PC using Logmein Rescue, so there was nothing for me to futz up.

When I tried doing it, I lost access to Vera. I was able to regain access using option 2 from the docs: http://docs5.mios.com/doc.php?language=1&manual=1&platform=2&page=advanced_settings_net_and_wifi_wificlientmode (ETH1 = WAN, ETH2= LAN).

My WIFI LED is never lit except when booting up. For those of you who have this working, does your WIFI LED light up?

 • Power
 • Z-Wave
 • USB1 (or maybe USB2)

What hardware and firmware are you using?

Don

Not sure if you’re referring to Vera or router
Vera2 v1.5.346
Router: Linksys WRT320N with dd-wrt firmware (DD-WRT v24-sp2 (12/19/10) mini - build 15943M NEWD-2 K2.6 Eko)

MCV is pointing to the router as the problem, although other devices don’t have trouble connecting. They want me to change from NG-mixed to BG-mixed and, if that doesn’t work, change to another router. I haven’t tried yet.
