I have my Vera set up to send my cell phone a text message if there are any issues (power is off, internet is down, etc). I get 2 or 3 notifications a week that the Vera is down. Up to this point I have been assuming that my internet connection is not 100% stable such that it blinks off and then back on from time to time. I have cable broadband from Time Warner.
This theory made sense until I received a down notification earlier this week at a time when I know the internet connection was up (my wife was on a conference call via Vonage).
Any thoughts on what could be triggering these down messages?
I get a couple of those per week as well but was never able to troubleshoot why it was happening … vera always restarts right away, so I don’t really worried about it.
Oh, false positives… I suppose it pings server (or server pings Vera using previously established connection) every so time, and when an attempt fails it sends message.
In VoIP they used to re-try something like 10 min before declaring broken connection…
Obvious question… Did your Vera box crash, or did you unplug it or something? If the Vera crashes, then you’ll get a notification. Otherwise there should be no false positives. If it happens again, you can see if one of our techs is online at micasaverde.com, click support and send an instant message. If so, we’ll look into it immediately. We’re getting our release candidate out so we want to fix any outstanding issues. But I haven’t been able to reproduce this.
Keep in mind that home routers tend to reset every once in a while from different reasons (dynamic IP change, etc), also when traffic-overloaded, for example by P2P stuff. In some cases ISP deliberately resets routers.
All this could possible make Vera think the connection is dropped…
