Vera advise

Hi,
I have decided to buy a Vera controller…but just don’t know which one.
In the future I want to integrate my curtains, lighting, alarm system, camera system, watering system, heating control and voip phone.
I want t have a device that can handle all of these things.
What’s your advice?

Thanks,
Herman

Well I have seen Vera do almost all of these things … have not seen anything with VOIP Phone … what did you have in mind here ?

Well…it might be wishfull thinking…but in the future I want to have a screen (ipad ? or something like that) that will give me the possibility to operate all of the zwave stuff. It would be nice if you could make a call from there using the voip phone I already have installed.
::slight_smile:

You really do not need Vera for VOIP calls. There are already multiple VOIP apps for the iPad for that purpose.

There are plenty of Apps out there for mobile (Android, IOS, and Windows) that will control most things you connect to Vera (there are a lot of Non Z-Wave things you can also connect).

Many people only use the Vera supplied Web interface for configuring … and run everything from a phone of wall/table mounted tablet.
You can even talk to your house … and it responds !

Thanks for the replies.
I still have to make a choice in between the vera devices. Which one do you advise ?
Thanks.

Long term the VERA edge is the way to go. Not everything works software wise to day but it will work better then the rest in the future after several months of updates.

Short term Vera 3 is ready to use now. Down grade to ui5 and you have a the most complete and stable vera to run alot of devices today.

Low budget is Vera Lite lacking RAM for alot of devices and plugins, but a good beginner until your system expands.

I’m finally thinking about the Vera3 or Vera Edge. Looking at the Vera Edge i see that the specifications are bettter than those of the Vera3… but the Vera 3 is more expensive.
Why is that? There must be a reason, right?

Thx,
Herman

There must be a reason, right?
  1. Vera3 is an older product with probably higher manufacturing costs.

  2. They would like to sell more of the newer product.

In practical terms, the advantage of Vera3 is that it can still use UI5 firmware. At the moment, this is more stable than UI7. In future weeks/months, UI7 will be improved and Vera Edge will have the advantage.

I think i’m going to find myself a Vera3.
It’s nice to have the lastest , but personally I prefer a “stable” product rather than facing different issues.

Fully agree I made the mistake to buy an Edge for the same reason. Now run on Vera 3 @ UI5 super stable and everything works ;D

Just a tip robbshop has some sale/demo vera3: http://www.robbshop.nl/z-wave-aanbiedingen
