Vera 3 How do I reset back to factory defaults is I can't communicate with it?

Hello all

I want to set my Vera 3 back to the factory defaults. I got a Vera 3 to replace a Vera 2. I backup up the 2 and restored to the 3. I was able to see my devices, but I received an error message if I tried to turn on/off a light (my Vera 2 has been working for about a year so my switches were set up properly). I believe the error message was that it could not communicate with the device. Also, in the area at the top of the screen when I went to the Vera 3 UI, there was something about not being able to communicate with the Zwave dongle.

I have my router handing out IP address as I have for many months. I set up a static IP address for Vera - the same that I was using with Vera 2. The lights that I am seeing now are: green power light (steady on), WAN light (flashing quickly) and the Zwave light (solid on). I searched and it would seem that the quickly flashing WAN light means that there is no internet connection to Vera.

I have held the reset button down for 10 seconds after plugging it in and that does not seem to work.

(1) So, how do I set it back to factory defaults using the buttons on front of the unit (reset, help, Zwave)?
(2) What is the help button on the front of the unit suppose to do?

Thanks for the help!
Gene

Hello Gene,

After you restored the backup file to your Vera 3 did change the Z-wave Port to /dev/ttyS0 (this is a zero)? See http://docs5.mios.com/doc.php?language=1&manual=1&platform=3Pro&page=upgrade

A1 - It is suppose to be as you described.
Simplest way to reset if you have access to the UI is Setup > Backup > Restore factory defaults
See http://docs5.mios.com/doc.php?language=1&manual=1&platform=2&page=factory_reset

Well, I had disabled Wifi on the Vera 3 AND I had checked and this was already set to /dev/ttyS0 and it was (I thought that I was lucky)!

Yes, it would be easy if I had access to the UI to just reset it, but that won’t happen until I can get in to it. So, do you think that maybe I am not holding the reset button down long enough (I’ve done it for about 30 seconds but could do it longer if I thought that it was going to work). It WOULD seem like that would be easy enough to do.

I can go through the other links that you provided later this evening but I believe that I had already looked through them before I sent my info out.

In my router, I don’t see that there are any devices that are listed that I am not aware of - I have static IPs for everything so that if I happen to see a device that is 192.168.1.101 or above, I know that it is not one of my devices that I have set up and right now, I don’t see any…what if I took out the reservation that I have for Vera 3 and see what IP gets handed out that is above .101? Not sure if that will do any good, but I would give it a try if anyone thought that it might work.

It WOULD be good if the reset button worked as we think that it should!

Seriously, I have never had to do it.
I just tried the hit twice quickly and it worked.
So give this a go.
I do not use the 4 ports and when reset, I had to set it up locally to reset network configuration.

Well, I got a fresh start today and now my Vera 3 is working! I don’t think that I did anything differently today than what I had already tried but I guess that I did because I am back in business!

Thanks to Brientim for offering solutions.
