Vera 2 (UI4) Root Password

Hi All,

I’ve tried to SSH into my Vera2 unit for the first time, and can’t get past the root password.

I have a Home ID listed underneath my Vera unit, but that seem to work.

Anyone have any ideas? (I’ve searched the forums, but none of the responses appear to help)

Thanks In Advance

JW

See if the logic in this post works for UI4.

Thanks Brientim, but unfortunately no.

I am still at a loss on how to get into my VERA2 unit.

Can anybody else have a solution please?

I’m surprised that the Root Password Display plugin doesn’t work for you. (I’m assuming you’ve already tried it.)

The procedure provided by @futzle will the original default root password (WIFI Passkey) but if you have changed the root password to be distinctly different from the WIFI Passkey, the modified root password held in /etc/passwd.

There are several hacks including modifying backups but the simplest way to log a job with MCV - UI4 via Advanced > Tech Support.

Hello,

I have just setup a Vera 2 UI4 to test SSH log on and a hack reset. The four attached file are plain screen captures of the events required and hopefully you can follow the sequence to enable you to get to the point, that you can either reset or modify the root password, if you are not confident, please submit the request to MCV and have them reset.

  1. Locate the Root Password.
    On Vera Lite’s, the root password isn’t printed on the bottom. So you need to access to the ‘Tech Support’ settings. Depending on your UI version, this is either under the Advanced tab, the Settings tab, or the Account tab. But if you can not currently access these tabs since you are locked out of the UI you will have to wait till your Vera session times out. After it times out you should be presented with 3 clickable options, you will want to select the 3rd (Contact Tech Support). After clicking this you will be brought to new screen that will allow you to turn on remote access. There will be an ‘enable’ button. Click that to turn on the tech support service. You will see a message like this:
    Tech support full control enabled, access code 3000000-436969
    The first number is your serial number, which is always printed on the bottom. The second number is a temporary password created for a user called “remote”.

@futzle

Have tried that and it displays my HomeId which is the same as the number on the back on my Vera2 unit.
Still won’t let me in. :frowning:

@Brientim

I tried to get the remote password, as described for the past 2 days, but when i clicked ‘enable it’ I got a message stating that it was successful, BUT it never displayed the code.

Today i tried it again and this time…it displayed the code…strange!

Once i got in, i was still struggling to get to the password file using Putty, but having seen your screengrab of using WinSCP, i tried that and was able to change my root password to the remote password, and i now able to login to the box.

Many thanks!

The reason i started this was to get my time correct on my Vera unit, every day it resets back to Jan 2010??

Thats for another thread i’m sure.

Once again thanks.

The last screenshot show you where to log into Advanced setting where you can change your password.

I remember the time reset error and there have been a few different ones over the last few years.
I would suggest whilst you may search the forum, you also raise a support on MCV and get them to fix it.

Good luck.

I’ve SSH into the box and installed the ntpclient package.
Its currently showing the correct time, so i’ll monitor it over the coming days, but am hoping my time issue is also now resolved.

Onwards and upwards to the next problem! :slight_smile:
